OK so this is the first in 10yrs I've cooked Christmas Dinner

Everything on the dinner menu I'm good with

But my Sprouts are going to get boiled unless anyone has better suggestions

Par boil chop in half finish off in the frying pan with bacon lardons (that's lardons not hardons... do not cook with hardons)

Well, since they smell like a canals nether regions and taste like what I imagine marmite mixed with curried skunk might, id suggest giving them a miss and going with Rocket instead

I just peel off the dark leaves, put crosses in the bottom, boil for 10 mins then throw in some butter and pepper, and they come out lovely ... Just don't overcook them and you'll be grand!

It’s not. But few would argue it tastes a whole lot better

I always cook them in the electric steamer, I find it easier to not overcook them in it

Tail them removing the outer leaves then cut in half shallow boil them in a frying pan with water and butter till the water vapourises off and the spouts are soft about thirty mins. add a knob of butter and toss them before tasting

Enjoy

Chocolate tastes better than potato, but it wouldn't be a suitable replacement in a Christmas dinner

Now there’s your answer: boil the sprouts then slather them in marmite and seasoning and grill for a few minutes

Well, fair play to you for going to the effort to keep the tradition

Hope the advice on here helps (but if you’re worried, keep a bag of rocket in reserve

C'est moi Boudoir

Trim outer leaves and stem of sprouts and slice width ways.

Add knob of butter to hot pan, add clove of garlic, chopped scallions, Christmas ham cut offs or bacon lardons. Toss lightly add sprouts and flash fry till softened then slowly stir in cream and parmesan...best sprouts ever.

Or prep sprouts as normal, par boil then add to pan with bacon lardons, tossed walnuts and maple syrup is another alternative to the traditional Irish cabbage style sprout! Enjoy

I'm going with Madame B.

Otherwise Google what Jamie Oliver does with them and they will be fabulous. Personally, I'm parboiling in ham water, then frying them with garlic and chilli, finally adding a little cream and grated parmesan. You have to dress up ugly balls to make them palatable. It's why I always sprinkled icing sugar on my balls before a meet

Oh have a bit of imagination and sex up your veggies folks. I hate them but if you do interesting stuff with them, they can be delicious. Flavoured vinegar, with a little good olive oil can make them gorgeous. Or a quick fry in a pan with very little oil and a few of your favourite spices and even the kids will eat them

I'm doing Jamie's spinach with cheese too for Christmas day and I did something similar years ago. I hate spinach but I love this.

If I'd thought of it sooner, I'd be eating courgettes and aubergine too,if it was parmigiana but I don't have the time to get that in as well (I know the real recipe, involves drying out the aubergine for a day or two)

I'm a meat liver but when veg is done right, it's gorgeous. Just sample an Avoca salad and tell me I'm wrong.

She’s thought of that too: all the air gaps in the ribbon wrapping negate the effect of the sprouts... clever!
