It's overhyped and a huge cause of stress and angst for people, pushing them into spending money they don't have and trying to live up to idealised nonsense. It's no surprise domestic violence peaks over the holiday . I've opted out

what other religion launches into a shopping frenzy to celebrate the biggest event of the religious calendar? I like sitting down for a lovely dinner but that's about it.

The only part I'm bothered about is the dinner and the time off to catch up with people.

Call me scrooge but personally 6 weeks of the same awful tunes, adverts and other malarkey does my head in.

I’m looking forward to it. I don’t get to see my family that often, so Xmas is when we all get together.

Every year we take turns on who will host it.

We do a secret Santa with €20 spending limit. So only one pressie to “stress” about.

Cooking is also a family affair. We agree on the menu beforehand, there’s always a few who help cooking and some are assigned to bring things like snacks, starters and desserts.

We also share the costs of the food.
