Can you admire someone you do not like ?

I like to challenge my own opinion and believe there is little point living in an echo chamber.

The thread is general but for the sake of kicking off the discussion I have to say I admire Ben Shapiro's debates . I'm certainly not a fan of him persinally. I disagree with a lot of what he says but to his credit I do think he is articulate & coherent when he speaks so I enjoy his content.

Any people (their traits) you admire for whatever reason despite not "liking" them ?

Ann Coulter and her Tesco value counterpart kate Hopkins and all the rest of the 'i have a controversial opinion that I will air for the right price' crowd have to be admired for the sheer bravado of it all

Katie Hopkins a "tesco value counterpart" is an utterly glorious description. I see where you are coming from for sure. Overly sensationalistic for the sake of driving the left wild.

I met her once and she is an utter cunt in real life. I'm not that sure she puts it all on. I think she really is just a cunt. Lol

Of course we can admire people with opposite views,we can even have a grudging respect for them, but unfortunately with each passing day some people seem to try and label opposing minds as fascists nazis racists misogynists etc. Ben Shapiro is a great example of that, his most recent public speaking event was "protested" by the loony left and its darker cohorts and they constantly label an orthodox jew as a nazi due to him having an opposing view. I don't agree with all his views but like you point out he is articulate and puts his point across succinctly when necessary or can elaborate when required, for example one of his best arguments smashes the gender pay equality myth.

Their entire position is to incite and offend. They have no substance whatsoever, its pure controversy for its own sake. These days nothing sells like outrage. We live in an age of outrage and that outrage can actually be dangerous.

however if you can make a credible argument for your case, I will give you an ear. John Waters had his moments, as did Melanie Phillips when I thought. 'yes get your point' and did cause me to re-examine my own beliefs.
