That's not quite accurate. You could legally buy them from 1980 onwards but only with a doctor's prescription. In '85 that was changed so that you didn't need a prescription but you could still only buy them from a pharmacy and you had to be over 18. In '95 it was liberalised a bit more so that under 17s could buy them and ordinary shops could sell them. |

In the 70 and 80 they could be bought freely in Germany, in the pharmacy! So you had to go to the neighbor's place, at least, otherwise the whole village knew you bought condoms
later there were machines on the wall at the pharmacist's. |
