What is your Defenition of being a Man

Some stereotypes used to describe men, can be that we are emotionally unavailable, that were angry - hard drinkers, pornography and sport are our two favourite pastimes.
Big boys/men don't cry.
Do you define manliness through pornography or your sexual conquests here on fab, are you more focussed on the outside than the inside.
What Does it Mean to be a Man.

Still trying to come up with a definition for this myself, but maybe a man's role changes with time. I'm sure 20 years ago a man would have been expected to work and provide for a family, definitely not always the case now with more career driven women etc |

Yeah I suppose, mens roles have certainly changed, no such thing as the job for life, for most, house husbands etc. |

a man to me is one who knows how to treat a woman in and out of bed..

It's certainly useful for getting a good idea of what the societally expectations are of being a man, at least within that particular group.
But that changes more often than you'd think. |

Getting rid of men, thats a bit harsh I take your point, it would seem that there has been a large increase in men wanting to become women, much, much more so than the opposite. |

My Idea of a man would be if you have kids be there for them. Be your daughters first love. Your sons first best friend.
If you have a wife support her be her shoulder to cry on her best friend.
If you have something on your mind go tell someone, being macho or soft doesnt matter into sport or cooking. As long as you are happy within yourself who cares. |

I put two giant spiders out tonight. They were so big they made a pint glass look small. Does that mean I'm a man  |

I recall sitting with a friend in his home not long after he had gotten married.
His son aged about 4 or 5 at the time suddenly came up to him and asked "Daddy, what defines a real man?"
My friend said "A real man is someone who looks after the house and looks after the family" to which his son then punching the air in delight says "Yayyyyyyyyy, I can't wait to grow up and be a real man just like Mummy".

Well the definition of a real man on fab appears to be a mam with no body hair and spends more time grooming themselves than the ladies. Another thing they always have to agrees with the ladies no matter what they say or do and always be a white night. |

A man to me is someone who is man enough to show their emotional soft side along with their strengths...all other good traits makes them a decent human being. A man that's comfortable with his emotions, weaknesses and strengths.

It is an interesting question as for some these stereotype definitions come loaded with external responsibilities. A bit like people may stereotype a woman needing to have a child to be a "complete woman". It's bollox.
Societal constructs of what it is to be male or female should not impact on individual liberty to do as someone pleases . Gender roles are continuously evolving in cultures and subsets within cultures. If roles are so changeable how it can it be defined in a narrow narrative. It can't. It helps some people to have these definitions as it gives them something to subscribe to as they may lack an identity otherwise.
Being a man or being a woman or non binary etc is about being yourself. It is about having your own values , morals and beliefs without needing superimposed stereotypes heat stamped into your consciousness for a more secure sense of fulfilling what it is to be a particular gender.
Times are changing.. "ahhhhhh it's gone mad these days" people cry out. It is alwayd changing. Pink was originally a masculine colour. High heels originally worn by men. Jeans designed as a mens workwear garment yet every woman in Ireland -60 probably has a pair. People get caught up in thinking that as things stand today is how it has always been where the reality is there has been shifts for millenia for it to get where it is now.
Evolution is scientific fact. People evolve over time and hence there will always be change. I think it is only recently and the not too distant future through education will people realise we are a species in permanent transition . |
