"When you're singing you're not fighting what is your most favourite Irish folk song or traditional Irish song?? "
Way way way too many to pick just one... Two that are in my head at the moment are Mary from Dungloe by the Emmet Spiceland group and a Scottish one, Fear a bhata by the Corrie folk trio with Paddie Bell. |

Scorn not his serenity brings a tear to my eye...just the one eye the other one is heartless!
Also not really the right genre but Mary Coughlans version of I would rather go blind is brilliant.
Years ago I ended up back stage drinking champers with Mary Black and the band kicked off a fantastic session. Not my usual taste in music but it was brilliant. Black is the colour is another great one that springs to mind

I need to apologise then as well as I went with a Scottish one on my first post. Mind you, the folk revival in the sixties blended a lot of different nationalities together. Pretty much the same songs and the same singers were doing the rounds in Ireland, the north of England and Scotland. |

I must away now... Luke's version being my favourite.
The whole thread will erupt into an almighty row as soon as someone mentions that their favourite Irish song is Danny Boy. |

Folk songs sung by Irish singers/bands/artist. The country of origin doesn't really bother me. Schooldays over, black is the colour, unquiet grave... all fantastic songs regardless of being Scottish or English originally.
Night Visiting Song and Nancy Spain are another two favourites that come to mind now that I think of it..... |

"Mursheen Durkin - Luke Kelly
Anything by luke really"
Being from limerick it's got to be Sean South from GarryOwen , or the broad magestic Shannon . Love the lyrics:
" Take my hand, and dry your tears babe
Take my hand, forget your fears babe
There's no pain, there's no more sorrow
They're all gone, gone in the years babe"
Shane is a poetic genius
Anything by Luke Kelly |
