Hey Folks,

Heading away this week on hols for the first time on my own.. And I'm kinda nervous as to how I will spend my days

Dont get me wrong I'm looking forward to the good weather and lying by the pool.. I guess it's more the being on my own for the week. Before someone asks.. It wasn't a planned single holiday..the other person pulled out

Anyway.. Any tips or suggestions from some of the seasoned holiday goers?

Most places still have tours if you fancy them.

If not, relax. Beach, swim, read, drink, eat and sleep.

Chat to people. Everyones friendly on holiday. Recharge the batteries

Enjoy

Aww you'll have a great time to just chill escape the rat race.... without going into details I ended up alone making my way home from a holiday and I found everyone lovely helpful and friendly and it really gave me the confidence to think I could actually be ok traveling on my own...and it's definitely on the list of things to do... backpack on hand luggage and off I go I think it's very liberating.

I'd be interested in hearing how your holiday goes. I'm thinking about heading off someplace on my own aswell.

Good luck with it

Stick on your native county football jersey and head into an Irish bar, some Irish person will tell you to take it off as a joke there's always one...

Or few people will probably chat to the Irish fella abroad. Either way, instant ice breaker

Have holidayed a lot on my own...you will have a great time! Don't be stuck to the phone all the time, take a book instead. Eat and drink where the locals go, try to get chatting to them also. If you are asked to join company and they don't look too psychotic(!) then do so...great way to meet other people and get chatting to others.

You'll have a great time. People are great when they see solo travellers and tend to take an effort to chat to you.

I really enjoy travelling alone OP - generally city breaks but some things Ive found helpful for downtime;

Fill your days with things to do - even if it's to go somewhere and lie there for the day, pick places to go for lunch/food, have some loose plans of what you want to do with your days. If it was me, I would try find the most isolated beaches in the area where the locals go or head down to the nearest marina, go out on a boat or something

Podcasts/music and books - essential!

Eating alone is probably the biggest challenge, not so much during the day but at nighttime it can feel weird - I tend to have dinner either before or after restaraunts are at their peak times.

Pub crawls or beer tasting etc is a great way to meet others!

Hate to say it but the coolest people I've met travelling alone have been other travellers - locals are hit or miss depending on their tolerance for tourists - so Irish/English bars/Hostels etc can actually be a god send when in need of a natter.

Have a great time and enjoy it

Ha.. Icecream for breakfast, love it. You know what, I never thought about the pod casts that's a brilliant idea.

You hit the nail on the head with the eating alone at night..it will feel weird and trying not to rush yourself to free up a table.

Thanks again
