Do you guys know about naked saunas in Dublin and if you do, what's your feedback about them?
It's nothing sexual, just want to enjoy sauna, as it should be enjoyed. |

Pretty sure there are none. It would still be seen as taboo by most Irish people. Very different here too mainland Europe. |

"In continental Europe naked sauna is mainstream and just normal. Strange we don't have it here."
It's not really strange though is it...when you really think about it. It's ireland |

Ireland voted in a referendum (as first country in the world) to legalise same sex marriages. Don't underestimate how far Ireland moved forward. I am sure if naked sauna openes it will be accepted OK. |

Em, many European countries already legally recognise it...we needed a referendum for it. I wouldn't be patting ourselves for that on the back to be honest haha |

Voting in gay marriage is easy, just tick a box and you won't have to worry about the gays anymore. Letting lads take their cocks out in a public place is a whole different kettle of fish. |

Exactly, and it would just be lads as well of course...mostly gay ones as well needless to say |

I would banana, in other countries it's the parliaments deciding, in Ireland it the people. That is significant! |

I don't think it is really...other countries don't even have to go to the people in the first place, it's just built into their constitution |

Man, you don't understand politics I am afraid. If something comes directly from the people it bears higher significance than parliamentary vote :P
In loads of European countries going to sauna means there will be boobs and cocks on display. It's grand as it is sauna and it is not sexual.

I actually do. May have not explained it fully though. It's always cool when you have a parliament driving progress but it is always better when the People are given the chance to decide about important topics. In many EU countries important issues are decided upon in referendums. This raised the importantance of the final decision. Trust me that not all countries would have legalised same sex marriages (from those that did through parliamentary vote) if they asked the People instead. I am sure banana that if we sat down to chat about it over a pint, we would arrive to similar conclusions. Writing on forums make it more difficult to communicate and exchange be views fully. |

Where did you find a naked sauna in Ireland? Was it public or private?
I took off once my bikini top in a women only Sauna here in Ireland, I nearly got killed by the looks I got and never tried it again. |

It was a private gathering, booked in a public facility. I nearly died though as my boss at the time was there. She was a very prim and proper lady but cracked a joke about not recognising me so neither of us ever again mentioned it till now lol |

So yours was a privately booked thing. We are on about places open to the general public, or more to the point, the absence of them |

There's the boilerhouse in temple bar. Basically a gay sauna though.
Maybe that's the reason they don't have many in Ireland? I certainly know if I went to a naked sauna in Ireland I'd just expect it to be full of men having sex, hence the reason I would never go. |

I think the Catholic Church has to answer a good bit for that one, the guilt is still ingrained in Irish society and my impression is that many perceive being naked is as a shameful thing, an obscenity. |

Also has contributed to the perception that it's not possible for a group of people to sit in a sauna naked without it getting sexual. |

Let's be honest, what's the chances of a mixed naked sauna in Ireland being non sexual? I give it 5mins before some guy says to a woman "Jaysus that's a fine pair of tits/child bearing hips you have there. Did you know that I have x acres in Longford crying out for a good woman and a scatter of babbies" |

My other guess is that sauna has no tradition in Ireland. On the continent it's way more common and in certain countries like Finland it's a centuries old tradition and part of their culture. I went naked to the sauna with my parents and friends from early childhood on. Never even lost a thought of the fact going in there naked. I felt really strange going the first time here and had to leave my swimming suit on. Deep sweating is a self cleaning process to flush toxins and it increases blood circulation beside other health benefits. You could argue that leaving you swimming togs on is unhygienic. Also I noticed barely anyone is using a towel to sit and drip down on which is disgusting IMO, which most likely is in connection with the togs too, no one would sit with their bare ass on a wooden plank where just another person sat and sweated. |

Many continental saunas will not let you in wearing any sort of fabric on you. Only towel is allowed. And yes, people should learn to use towels so they leave the place clean after themselves.
I enjoy when they make those scent shows in saunas. Put some different nice oils on the rocks and do some cool shows with towels to help you experience it better. It does look funny when the girl or guy does their towel dance in front of a group on market, sweaty people. Haha. It's very relaxing and enjoyable though.
I think Irish people are very well behaved and if you open a quality establishment with clear ruled, people would very quickly learn how to enjoy sauna comfortably :P |
