The letterkenny clinic is only open on a Thursday evening, from 17.30. There are only a few people working in it and they are very friendly and non judgemental.

Got checked out up in the Louth clinic and the staff were great.

They were informative and a bit of craic.

All clear as usual for me, still worth checking out every once in a while.

Fair play to you for putting that up,

I think it's important information to have at hand, and some people just don't know how to go about it.

Great post!

"And it goes on yer medical record too."

The gp check would.

However attending one of the above clinics does not.

I was asked if I wanted any findings reported to my gp and I said yes. Seemed to make sense in case of future problems. I've been clear any time I've been checked, not sure if gp gets a note to say I've attended, but it doesn't much matter to me.

I suppose if nothing found nothing to report to gp. Not sure.

Nonethless great peace of mind to have a clean sheet.

Just wondering has anyone ever used one of those dental dams ?

The people at the GMHS clinic are absolutely amazing.

Since lobstergate I get checked every three months in a discreet and friendly environment. Also lube and condoms there free of charge and coffee or tea while you wait to get poked and prodded

Or meet anyone you have been with on your way in when they are coming out and they do not look happy lol.

I have to get medical reports for working in some countries (mostly middle east) stating I am clear of all illness including STI's. They must be afraid of the goat population catching something ha ha.

Nearly forgot, do you get an all clear cert with these clinics?

Letterkenny only tell you if they've found something. If you hear nothing by two weeks after your tests, you're clear. It's not ideal, but clear is clear and that's all that matters to me.

In cork you have to go back after 2 weeks for all results.. does anyone think a text service would be great? like they have in the Uk They get a text stating all clear or a number to ring if something was found. I know of a company online also where a nurse will come to your home or an arranged setting and take all samples needed, you then get a pin number to log in and check results a number of days later. Could be good for people who will not go to their local clinic

Usually you don't have to return to the clinic!

In the limerick clinic you don't have to go back they say if you don't hear from us in two weeks it's all clear...

Oh I dont know, maybe health insurance coverage and fees, future employment prospects in certain career areas.

This world is a strange place.

So best to go to the likes of the Guide Clinic and get if done for free and with no record on your file with your GP.

You would need to be allready there by 8am to be seen that same morning.

If you are worried about been seen there is an online service called letsgetchecked.com.

They post the testing kit to you you follow instructions post it back and they email you the results.

Obviously it costs but if you are putting it off for fear of meeting your auntie Mary........

I normally go to gp and get full check but decided to try the gum system last time . It was dead quiet . The doc was a mature female very nice .. was given a telephone number a time to call and a number to quote . I did notice it was a new file not my usual hospital one .

I had to have a follow up gynae app a few weeks later following surgury nothing related to gum . And i asked can u tell me dates of my last tests and was given the ones done my gp . As i had to have them done before surgury . So file must be destroyed . Tbh i found easier to go there than gp

Has anyone ever been refused a job for having an std test?

I thought if they found HIV it was mandatory to add you to a list.

If for any reason it comes up in a job interview, just say you donate blood, you got a tattoo, or youre thinking of taking the next step with your girlfriend.

Also, James lets you do a self test, as in they draw the blood and let you do the swabs if you are embarassed of a nurse doing it.

Also, the free places can have big waiting times, so if you can go early.

My local GP does a clinic every few weeks. It's brilliant that it's incorporated into normal GP office and hours because it just looks like you're going to see the doctor for anything, not that you're there specifically for the clinic.

Got my most recent tests done there only a few weeks ago. You can never be too careful on here
