i think welcoming a racist, Islamophobia spreading, misogynist who is only out for the rich and powerfull of the world, to Ireland is a bit strange is it not? or maybe i'am the only one who thinks he is the worst thing to have happened in modern political history?

"Should the Irish people welcome the US President "

I don't think our country could accommodate trumps ego. I particularly feel for the undocumented irish in america at this time, the fear and uncertainty they must be experiencing with all his rhetoric, not to mention his neanderthal view of women, as our washington correspondent experienced last week in the play pen.

We are dependent on the US for so many of our hi-tech jobs...

Jobs that hauled us out of recession.

Whilst obviously he lacks a certain charm we can't make an enemy of him to spite our own noses....

The US companies don't have to come here.

Plus Hilary and her international dealings and lack of personality would have been worse..

Leo has, as any businessman, to listen to thunder for the benifit of our little country that has 10% of America's overseas manufacturing capacity on our shores.

A misogynist who wants to bang his faughter ? A man who brags of sexual assault and plays it off as locker talk ? The man who falsely claimed muslims openly celebrated in New Jersey in their thousands after 9/11? The man who falsely claimed Obama was not born in America ?

The man who has fake time magazine covers of himself and calls the news fake ?

The man who used a fake video of a fake figbt in a fake sport and calls the news fake ?

The man who disputes he supported war in Iraq despite recorded evidence on H. Stern show to the contrary ?

The man who.knows so many words yet tweeted coyfefe ?

The man who regularly uses ad hom attacks towards those who opppse him rather than have a civilised debate ?

The man who mocked a disabled reporter ?

The man who asked if the second amendment crowd could do something about Hilary?

The man who surrounds himself with men such as Steve Bannon from the infamous breitbart .

The man who said he would drain the swamp in Washington only to fill it more with the biggest critters going ?

The man who said global warming was a chinese hoax ?

The man who criticised American firms for manufacturing overseas while him and his family have businesses manufacturing abroad ?

The man who said he could shoot someone on 5th av and his supporters would still support him.

The man who tied Ted Cruz's father to JFK's assassination with no evidence?

The man who wants waterboarding ?

The man who clashed with the parents of a dead soldier ?

The man who would release his taxes but hasnt of yet ?

There is plenty of reasons why this scumbag shouldn't be welcomed. An utterly vile individual.

I've no idea where you got that figure from and you couldn't have picked a worse company to make your point. Apple paid at a 0.005% tax rate in 2014, I very much doubt that this figure was much higher in 2015. Theoretically the standard corporate tax rate in Ireland is 12.5%.

Except, it's not actually growing...

His base has been declining ever since he has taken office.

Just like most support for Brexit came from parts of the population that will not or hardly have to deal with the long-term consequences, knee-jerks of dying/declining 'resentido' base group of voters.

What would Trump have to do in your eyes to make him unwelcome ?

Is he by virtue of being the American president given a free pass on everything he has done and said so far ?

What is your opinion on his healthcare bill ? It will be responsible for more American deaths than any terrorists if it gets the go ahead.

And I think money should be cut on science. We need to be spending more trillions on the art of war.

Creationism isn't based solely in the USA. Sure our minister of science in 2010 backed out at the last second from a creationist book launch here. If the book had legitimate arguments, I wouldn't have a problem, but it was the same old things you read in those fundamentalist apologetic sites, with lots of use of caps lock

Whats your opinion on firing James Comey for not beinf loyal to him. He inferred he had recorded tapes of theit conversations yet later recanted. Liar

He said Obama wiretapped him and had evidence. Has never produced it. Liar

Pulled the U.S out of the Paris climate accord. Only 2 other countries not in it. Syria and Nicaragua. Not the world's shinimg lights exactly.

Has a muslim ban yet doesn't ban Saudi Arabia or anywhere he has business affiliations with. Saudi Arabians had the vast majority of attaclers involved in 9/11 if he wants to play the game of blaming nations for incidents by individuals. His lucrative arms deal with the saudis ? Where does he think this will lead.

He praised the phililino president whp sanctioned the extrajudicial killings of thousands of susprcted drug dealers.

He released a budget with a $2 trillion dollar math error.

He had a fake university yet accuses the news of being fake.

At a recent nato meeting he shoved the minister of montenegro out of his way to be in front of a group of nato leaders.

Hired Jeff Sessions. A man with a very nasty past regarding race relations and also bizarrely forgetful under oath.

Appointments like this go the character of who Trump is.

Rex Tillerson for secretary of state ? Really draining the swamp there Donald.

Secretary of housing dept Ben Carson ?

He says being gay is a choice.

A man who believes in a 6 day creation of earth by god. Has said people go into prison straight and come out gay . Something happens in there" what is he on about ! Doesnt agree with the big bang or evolution as he is so brainwashed by his religion.

Trump is a goon. He surrounds himself with goons. He is a despicable human.

Thankfully he pulled out and as you rightly said those books have no legitimate or scientific argument to make. I think it's a very worrying and damaging ideology to be forced onto the US state national curriculum.

He's the president of one of the most powerful countries in the world, be it you like him personally or not. He's going to visit and that's it. If you don't like it or want to protest about his visit, you are welcome to do it. If you want to get out and wave a flag and welcome him, that's up to you too. People got up off their arses and voted for him. People slagged him off during the campaign that he was this and that but he made sense to the people who voted for him. Clinton would have made a dangerous president in my view. She only said with her husband because she knew she was going to run. From the rumour mill, they lead separate lives. She lied under oath about having a gmail account and using it for state secret purposes. She was found to be untruthful. Trump wants to bring the car making industry to America to create jobs. He told the company's that moved to Mexico to build cars, that he would put a high tax import duty on their cars if they didn't come back. He wants to create jobs. A lot of what he says is bull and a lot of what he wants to do, he can't because it has to go through the Houses and they can shoot it down and have done already.

The US companies don't have to come here.

Companies that don't pay corporate tax and pay salaries that aren't sustainable. You must be joking by saying they hauled us out of recession! "

So what about the some 6000 jobs each of these create nationally not to mention the indirect employment as a result of these said jobs...do they not contribute to the our economy ??

Well we can't pretend the Democrats are too much different either. Take guns off good people ? The ones who leave guns within reach of toddlers who end up shooting themselves or others in the house.

Yes there are murders in Ireland. No disputing that. If ease of access becomes easier much more murders will happen.

No issue with people going to a gun range but I don't think it should be a human right to bear arms when humans have a tendency for cognitive falsehoods and may/often do use their guns in situations they shouldn't.

There certainly is plenty of dems in the back pockets of corporations. That I would certainly agree with. The American political system is very flawed. The gerrymandering system is ridiculous . It is in turn why the electoral college does not represent the popular vote neccessarily.

I'm no trump supporter but I doubt eye brows would be raised if we welcomed a leader from any of the Arab states that denounce homosexuality or have appalling human rights records

I think it's time to put this topic to bed,it seems to me the majority on here are anti Trump just for the sake of it with no reasonable arguments whatsoever

As preciously discussed, plenty of legitimate points raised why people are not fans of his. I was hoping you could answer the pointd raised but alas the best you could do was call liberals snowflakes and spout nonsense about America's lax gun laws. I'm guessing you are the type of guy who is probably an Alex Jones fan . Comical stuff !

"He was elected by US citizens in a democratic way.not one person has given one good reason why the President of the United States should not be welcomed to this country. "

All reasons so far are personalised reasons... a fairly common theme on fab rather than rational thought... One can have rational thought, disagree but still see not see it as a valid reason for him not coming.

There's alot of fabbers who shouldn't be allowed on fab if we were to apply the reasons stated so far and that my friends probably include everyone of us who have contributed to this thread.

I look forward to some genuine valid reasons why a democratically elected president shouldn't be allowed to visit Ireland or are we just too in trenches in bigotry here for our own good?

The question is 'should the Irish people welcome him?' We're not talking about 'allowed'.

I think everyone is entitled to, can have and bring forward personalised reasons to answer this question of welcoming him or not.

Exactly. I read it collectively (Irish people) as a group/nation, unless I'm mistaken, and so rather than personal hate/vendettas or dislikes, surely the reasons should be for the collective good/bad of the nation. A national issue.

Maybe a I misunderstood/ misread the OP.

As someone who is half a yank, I am ashamed to say he is "my " President.

I shall not be waving the flag when he is here. Hillary was not better. But better than this man.

That's my two cents about it.

We're not run by a dictatorship as far as I know, so a collective cheering for the sake of the nation isn't going to happen. And to call individual peoples political opinion, opposition and disagreement with Trumps behaviour, thinking and politics "personal hate", "vendettas" etcetera is just appalling. We're all entitled to our opinion, this is a democracy (even though a quite corrupt one).

Galway

Yes we should welcome the President of the USA to Ireland. What most people are whinging about is the same as what previous presidents have done in the past ie the travel ban. As for the uproar from the grab her by the pussy remark that was said in a conversation in between guys and most men have said worse while out with the lads,in fact loads of women have said worse, anybody that disagrees just needs to go and listen to the groups of hen parties in Galway every weekend. The wall which people castigate him over has been proposed by plenty of previous presidents and even killary had it as part of her election manifesto. In saying all this I do believe that The Donald is an eejit but aren't most people?

What exactly do you actually mean by welcoming him?

If you mean he should, as elected US President, be allowed to come over for a state visit? Sure.

However, I by welcoming him you mean we should all go out and cheer him...

Trump is a disgrace.

He has further divided his own people and now the suckers that voted for him are beginning to realise that they were USED, lied to and stand to gain very little from putting him in the Whitehouse. He's a businesses man with nothing but $$$ on his mind & if the suckers think he's going to help them when he can help himself, they are sadly mistaken.

He's a Spiv, a second hand car dealer type who will disgrace the office of POTUS and bring ridicule to the leading country of the 'free' world. We've stopped feeling sorry for his supporters, it's plain to see his agenda and if you want to support the kind of world he offers, you are part of the problem.
