I thought this would be easy to answer but theres just so much lol.
Museums, trip round Wembley or Chelsea football grounds, London Eye, Tower of London, Parks, Madame Tussauds, Hamleys toy store,
Tours galore from Jack the Ripper to Harry Potter.
Shows. The zoo
Get an Oyster card for the bus and trains. You can buy them in shops and top them up with however much you want. I'm not sure but I don't think public transport takes cash now. |

You can walk from Trafalgar square right down Whitehall to the houses of Parliament passing Downing st and the Senotaph if thats your thing.
Also Covent Garden near Trafalgar Sq is lovely if its sunny. Theres street entertainment there |

The new Lego store looks amazing. Think it's in Leicester Square so you can visit the Moderation&M shop and catch a movie in the Empire in best vision and sound also.
Be prepared to have empty pockets though! |

Harrods for afternoon tea is supposed to be great, along with looking at some mad stuff at mad prices for fun. Also friend has 12yr old and they all loved the British Museum. Might not be naming it correctly but you'll figure it out, or LonCav can specify.
I would also take them to the IMAX cinema but I'm biased towards movie experiences.
Make sure you do Big Ben and Buckingham Palace as they'll see or have seen them a lot in movies/TV so will connect with them. |

After tea on the balcony, they have a pet parlour downstairs occasionally housing some exotic animals. |

The London eye is good and it's next to the london aquarium also boat trips down the Thames ,all can be expensive things to do which are free ,all the London parks ,and the museums which are great for kids especially the science & natural history museum  |

The Shard for views, cat cafés, museums, Hamleys, Palaces, river buses, Cutty Sark @Greenwich, the tropical sky garden in the 'walkie Talkie' building on Fenchurch, Kew, London aquarium, London Eye, Tussauds, London is impossible to be bored in. |

You'll need a holiday when you get home if you do all thats been recommended lol
I'd also suggest travelling around by bus rather than tube - slower but you'll see a whole lot more. |

Check out The Merlin Pass. It covers a lot of the main attractions & lasts a year. We got really good value from it as we managed a trip to Alton Towers the next year also. It covered almost everything we wanted to visit so whilst it might seem like a big outlay at first you really do save money in the longterm. I'd also recommend The Natural History Museum & The Science Museum, they were fantastic. Carmel x |

Just back from a weekend doing some of the free attractions/museums/sights so couple of tube tips...
1, Get the tube app, really easy to use and tells you which stations/platform/line changes etc for any where you need to go.
2, The tube day pass is £12/adult and will more than pay for itself saving time and effort getting around.
3, Don't take the stairs at Covent garden wait for the lift...

"The national gallery, blew myself with all the paintings I had only seen in books beforehand.
Thought they had a better collection then the louvre."
Sitting looking at Raphaels Cartoons in the V&A was pretty awesome, as is the whole place, Tate modern was also a great revisit and seeing new work 
Watching the kids (and some adults) wide eyed as the T Rex roars at the Natural History Museum was fun
All free too  ...
