Just wondering how often do people get tested in Ireland?
Even if you are having safe sex some can be passed on through oral so...how safe can you be?
Is there any easier way than the queing at your local hospital?
Dont know about ye but I personally know a few nurses in the hospital who would be questioning me getting tested, considerings I am in a 6 year relationship. |

Just go and get a full medical checkup.
Lots if people get it done all the time . I get one yearly and they test for everything so if something shows up you can get it sorted.
Some health insurance plans cover all or a percentage of it in one of the private hospitals.

Dont just go for the sexual tests then. Go get everything checked.
And medical professionals dont really care so you probably reading more into it than it is.
At the end of the day its your body and you have to look after it.. |

"But are you married/single/in a relationship. I feel like I get interrigated when I go and I am a terrible liar!!!
Its like...."oh , so you are together 6 years, then why are you here" The last time I went it was a year between vsits and the man I had seen that and was pretty much like you must be having doubts about yoir partner if you are here.... "
Sounds like you are projecting, medical professionals see all sorts and don't really give a damn. |

I get tested every 4 months even though I have safe sex. It's my health and I know that I take it seriously but others don't so better to be safe than sorry |

I go about every 6 months for peace of mind. They literally have seen every secnario going and only need the information so your test results will be acurate. If it helps don't go into so much detail about relationship etc just say how many partners in the last 3 months and if it was protected or not. Thats all they realy need to know. Ive used a home testing service also before its discrete but expensive. |

Gp won't do questions in my experience, but when I go to St james hospital in Dublin they do ask few questions best policy is just being honest with them.
They are professionals and they don't care much about your personal choices, they only care about your health and check if you are safe.
I prefer the STI clinic in the hospital |

Oh right, it wasn't clear that this was actually said to you. Be upfront and explain your lifestyle then. It's not necessarily a judgement on the doctor's part to be questioning your need for tests that wouldn't be required by someone in a totally monogamous relationship, they are probing to see if there are other issues. |

The range of tests you will be given is also dependent on your risks factors - these are assessed from your sexual practices, so no point hiding things from the professional. |

I guess maybe Galway is a small place and it just feels all a bit too close to home ya know??
Never had a problem in college as tests were regular but the older I get the more concious I feel about it.

I get full bloods done every few months if I am seeing different people. Some don't show til 6 months later so you really have to go regularly to be safe. Other than monogamy, condoms are essential. |

I had my tests done in January, oral, anal, vaginal swabs plus blood tests. They advised me to have a hepatitis vaccination as well, apparently hepatitis can be caught from kissing an infected person, and I had to go back in April to have the HIV test repeated. All clear, I wasn't expecting it to be otherwise. My gp doesn't do them, I had to go to the GUM clinic at the hospital. Will go again next year or sooner if I feel I should. |

If its an issue that you don't want people knowing your business as it were look into the home test a person mentioned. No idea how reliable they are but would alleviate your worries.

For me depends on how active I have been. But at least once a year if not more. Also I travel to another county to avoid seeing peopleI know in hospital. I feel some medical professionals aren't very professional in how they deal with you if they know you. So I will go to a different hospital than I'm local just for my own comfort also I'm will to be more up front about my activity. |

Groupon (STI Screening) have them on offer all the time. Private clinics, fill out a form, see the nurse for a few mins, give blood and urine and out. A few places around Dublin, discreet and quick and about €50-€60. Results 7 days later.
Get it done it's your health. |

If it helps there are clinics in the hospital in ballinasloe or castlebar if you are afraid of meeting someone you know. I won't mention your relationship status and just answer the questions honestly. They are there to help so full honesty is best for your own well being |
