Would have to agree here. If there is an appeal and it is upheld then referees should seriously consider their participation here.

While referees do not always get it right they need to be supported by the officials that appoint them.

All Dub footballers are scoobies, if they werent playing in croker, they`d be outside robbing car stereos!

Philly Mc , now theres a lad over due a LONG suspension, how I can pick him out of the panel of thugs i dunno!

As for Mayo and Sam, sadly its not likely with current squad, they are losers plain and simple, winning mentality would have had 3 all Irelands in the bag by now

All the above merely Mac`s humble opinion

p.s. did anyone mention doping and the dubs yet?? Paul Kimmage is quiet bout that

If I was on the Dublin county board i'd let him take the suspension. He needs to learn to control his temper, and he will only do that when his actions have consequences. Especially now that the targeting will inevitably increase

I'm definitely not a Connolly fan because of his temper and the way he reacts to situations. Undoubtedly he is a fantastic footballer and I've been to club games where he has turned the game around. Incidents like this though are not acceptable. The GAA have recently introduced the respect handshake and this incident definitely didn't display respect. A hard line needs to be drawn here otherwise there may as well be no rule book. Take the suspension and learn from it.

Personally i think he should have got longer. Paul galvin got 6 month ban for slapping a notebook out of refs hand. It was reduced to 12 weeks but only on appeal. So how is slapping a notebook worse than putting your hands on an official

it's ironic if the linesman had done his job right and given the decision the way it should have been given this would never have happened .but he did wrong and the punishment is there for that .

Connollys agression and attitude are part of what makes him so good. He lost it over a line ball when Dublin were winning handy, it's that attitude that has Dublin winning so much, if you take that away, you take away part of why he's so good!

I am no Connolly fan - he is an extraordinary footballer but is too easily wound up for his own good. What he did was stupid and the rulebook says 12 weeks for that infraction so he should serve that. However, the rulebook and particularly the penalties are a bit ridiculous. This could happen in an end of season club league game and you would still get 12 weeks and might miss NO football whereas he will now probably miss 3 important Inter County Championship matches - no sense in that. Having said all that I have a certain amount of sympathy for him - the smug way the linesman (also an intercounty referree) stood smirking at him indicated to me an attitude of "ha ha we have you now Connolly". This is typical of the attitude of referees at the moment - most of them are on a total Ego trip and are useless. It is actually a wonder more of them are not assaulted. The GAA would be better served improving their standards and thereby removing the cause of most of these flashpoints.

Now now folks, it's only a game and these are just the forums. Let's not get personal.

To the matter in hand, when I see some of this kind of thing in GAA, I can't help thinking to myself, that would never happen in rugby. All the players have much more respect for the officials, whether they like the ruling or not. Imagine how much more actual football would be played in GAA if it was the same!

"Great to see the ignorance shine from some of the older "gents" here

It's not uncommon, it's the same few with the same lines

This is to be expected when you post a thread criticising a national sportstar and call him a "thug" and a "moron" and make it blatantly obvious you have a personal grievance against him and his team because they have denied your team victory on many occasions.

If you can't take it then don't give it.

Have an awesome night.

I don't wish to converse with you, ever.

Hence I have you blocked for a long time.

No one lives there they all fly in from London every year for the semi and straight back that night for a cry.

I love it every year..will they never learn

A county that never wins anything and never shuts up.

No shame them muldoons

Ahh don't be hating. The rules are the rules. He broke them even if lightly so the ban is the ban. He should by now at 30 years old be able to controle himself targeted or not. He seems not to be able too which is a shame because he is a fantastic footballer of that there is no doubt. I still think the Dubs will do it again this year and of course I'll be cheering them on as always. Looking forward to it. Good luck all and up the Dubs!

Not appealing the ban apparently. Fairplay to him. I honestly respect him for that decision.

He had no grounds for appeal, he broke the rules and got the minimum punishment.

Yeah big dubs supporter .but he is right not to appeal.he broke the rules .but love him or hate him ( as it seems all mayo supporters do).he is an amazing football talent .and players like him .and the likes of Paul geaney ..mccarron of monaghan .mcmanus.etc should get protection for all the officials.for the thugs .for example the west meath manager admitted sending his players out to try get connelly sent off last year

"He had no grounds for appeal, he broke the rules and got the minimum punishment."

He did but Brolly gave him the argument he needed to possibly get away with it and he chose to be the bigger man and take the punishment. All respect due to him for that.

I know he broke the rules but you've got to admire his dedication to his team and his county when they were so far ahead and nearly certain of a win.

Teams like Mayo at that stage would have taken their foot off the pedal and probably lost..... that's why they can't win All-Ireland's.

As previously said it's a shame we won't get to see this fine footballer for most of the championship.

So he's not dedicated?? Way out in front and still fighting for every ball...he's been one of their best and most consistent players for the past few years...is that not dedication??

I have no anti Mayo tripe. I was making a comparison. I have supported Mayo on many occasions and went to see them in Croke Park and always such a let down. It's not tripe...the record's speak for themselves and you can't deny that.

The GAA was founded to promote native games in local communities at amateur level with fairplay, respect and sportsmanship at its forefront. Some when supporting a winning team forget this. So what of Mayo keep chasing it. They will at some stage get there. To belittle their efforts because the team you support is currently doing well is not very adult. As for the anti Mayo thing anyone here a while knows why that is.

I'm talking about the whole anti Connolly thing in general. Sorry if I didn't make that clear.

But it seems perfectly OK to knock one team (and in particular one guy) and not another.

Bottom line in all this is. Dublin will still win Sam .and wait for the hill reception he will get when gavin decides to bring him off the bench in the second half of the all ireland semi final in late August .

Seem to recall Keane coming on as a substitute and within minutes red carded for striking Donegals Murphy

Can keep going with various teams around the country. 12 week ban was a bit much. And some get off with a yellow or black card for just as bad or worse. Love the Dubs but also love a quality game of football which over last couple of years seems to be few and far between.

Galway v Mayo? May the best team win.... South x

With the day that's in it I just thought I might resurrect this thread.

Sorry for ur troubles Boldy !!

Joe Brolly on the Connolly case makes for very interesting reading and for those of you that say the officials didn't act at the time I say they did. They did nothing because it wasn't an incident worth acting on but then the Dub haters make a mountain out of a molehill.

Connolly is one of the most naturally gifted footballers in the country and we all profess to be lovers of the beautiful game and try to produce Connolly like talent in our own clubs all over the country. Yes he is flawed but most geniuses are. I really do hope common sense prevails

Dunboyne & Dublin

I'm only adding a comment in the hope it reaches maximum and is no longer available to post on cos it's boring the sheeeeiiiittteee out of me. Not really a Fab type discussion so no knickers were twisted in the name of sexual gratification of any kind. Shame on all of us!

Go on, pick a team to make a joke out if that one

Lot of sad comments here.

Reality, do the crime face the time.

Its a sad reflection on the player not maning up and its a very bad example for young kids following the game.

Obey the rules you cant abuse officals no matter how minor. Its call disapline and he is old enought to know that.
