What do ya wear??
Jump to: Newest in thread
Ok.. I'm jus wondering what you ladies wear when ur meeting for a coffee.. I got some feedback from a coffee meet I had few months back.. told me I looked scruffy and made no effort.. now I was wearing a pair of jeans and a nice casual top and runners as I was driving.. didn't have any makeup on as I don't wear much of it and I don't see why I should try to pretend I'm something I'm not... Am I wrong in thinking this way?? |

Wait?!?! Hold on just a minute now - you mean you went for a coffee and weren't wearing a low cut top, a short skirt giving a flash of stockings and six inch heels.
Outrageous OP ! Don't you know that's minimum expectation for coffee meets !? |

I'm a fairly casual dresser myself but that doesn't mean scruffy. My clothes are tidy and clean, I'm showered with brushed teeth and hair.
If he doesn't like the overall look of you, fair enough. That's what coffee meets are for.
Don't let that one person put doubt in your head about how you dress. |

Exactly as you described, that's what I'd wear. Smart/casual. I don't see the need to go ott.
That meet, he sounds like an ass |

Well, how you said the most important thing it's be yourself and feel comfortable with what you wearing.
About your question? I don't do much coffee meets, I like socials and parties, but when I decide to go for a coffee meet or just a meet I usually go how I feel that day can be casual, neat, or sometimes I feel like bit like sexy dress depending the time and place of the meet . But again I pay a lot a attention to details and how I look from head to toe... That's just me.

Ah they're fairly skimpy. They're more like a thong than speedos. Sometimes my ballsack pops out. It's something of a conversation starter though so I don't really mind. |

I think I'd go and do a little effort even for a coffee meet. That doesn't mean short dress and stilettos but I'd make sure I look nice with some sexy touch to it. By the end of the day you want to make some sort of impression. No?
But then what would I know, I don't do coffee meets.... |

Have to agree with DH, some effort would be made to look nice, probably the same as if I was off out shopping. Which is what I usually do when meeting for a coffee. |

I'm usually meeting from work so on my bike and difficult to dress up anyway.
To be honest I never notice what the guy is wearing (until he leaves ad I'm watching his ass)
But anyway my thoughts on coffee meets are about chemistry and hygiene. So 'scruffy' to me would be greasy hair, greasy skin, bad teeth, bad breath, dirty fingernails, smelly clothes - one or more of them.
I'm never any of them btw

I've worn my work boots to coffee meets in the past as they were during my working day. If that's a problem for someone it doesn't really bother me. I meet people because of who they are, not what they're wearing. I really don't care once they're not wearing a bozo the clown outfit unless they are actually bozo the clown. |

Sounds a bit like he expected more than coffee and didn't get it. He should of had a fancy flavoured coffee instead of a straight no bullsh*t american....
Sounds like you were dressed appropriately OP. If he doesn't like it that's his choice but to be rude is disrespectful. |

It's too much like hard work pretending to be something your not.
Be yourself it's who you are meant to be and if others can't see your true worth it's their loss and probably your lucky break.
As for dress codes...dont try to fit into what you think you should wear. If your meeting someone who can't see past the clothes to who you are then it's their problem not yours....
I hope future meets go better for you

I don't mind what the person has on, it's usually whatever they wear for work as I'm a daytimer.
I've met in uniform, jeans, dress.,
Just depends.
Once they're clean I'm happy. It's not the clothes I'm meeting, it's the person. |

Nope, sounds perfect to me. Coffee IS casual and should be treated as such - the point is to see if you have a spark with someone and this should be obvious when you are chatting. Just my take anyway. |

OP you are right of course because there is no right or wrong way to dress. Everyone dresses differently in life in general so we will not all dress the same for meets. I could be in work attire, gym wear, or casual wear, whatever suits the time of day and weather. Though, I will be wearing something sexy underneath though but that just to make me feel sexy. I dress for myself, so if I feel sexy and confident it won't matter what I am wearing. Never had any complaints. Dress how you want OP, that my opinion |

I can't wear heels cos I look like a d*unk toddler walking in them, it's a skill I've never mastered and have no desire too.

"Ok.. Am I wrong in thinking this way??"
Did he make much of an effort? Would you have taken it further?

Personally as a coffee meet is usually a first time meeting someone, I would rather both of us felt comfortable as it can be daunting enough meeting someone new.
I see no problem with what you were wearing, I'd normally dress smart casual for a coffee meet (smart jeans and either a shirt or jumper.
I like to see people how they normally would be, the sexy clothing is for nights out and meets |
