Need a bit of help guys.
Taking a short trip to the uk in a couple of weeks. I'm up the walls about flying. I've been a wake every night thinking about it. Its not the fear of crashing it's the whole sensation.
Everyone says a few drinks and you'll be grand but it never helps.
Any words of wisdom. I'd try anything. Scared shitless |

DON'T take stimulants or alcohol.
Find some music that will distract/relax you and use your headphones. If you get the window seat, pull the blind. On a long flight I'd say go for a walk every half an hour to the loo...But I'm not sure the plane to The greatest football team on Earth's home or Liverpool even levels off... |

I used to have a fear of flying but somehow managed to embrace it and get over it and ended up flying and living all over the world. The more often you do it the more you'll feel relaxed about doing it. I fly to Liverpool quiet a bit for football and you'll be there before you know it. Try to enjoy the flight, You'll Never Fly Alone!! |

Get Rescue Remedy from the chemist. They can be bought in drops form that are mixed with water or spray form. Use from now til after your trip. Theyre completely natural and will help calm feelings of panic, anxiety and irrational thinking. |

I wonder if it can get cats out of trees |

I used to get the chewing gum for feelings of claustrophobia on flights. It really does work to relax you. You can get in Holland & Barrett. |

I used to have a really bad fear of flying, combined with anxiety attacks with being in confined spaces.
I'm over it now and I'm on a plane at least twice a month with no problems.
I found a few things that helped me. First, I learnt about planes. Just simple things, but I now know what all the typical noises that you hear on-board are, what the plane will be doing at that point, and so I can rationalise any movement or sensation that I feel.
Second, eliminate any unnecessary stress. Get to the airport in plenty of time for a long security queue. Buy water before you get on-board. Book your seat so you know where you're sitting. Have a playlist downloaded to your phone ready to go. Have everything you'll need handy in your bag so you don't need to move once you've sat down.
Third, look around and normalise what's going on. Everything on-board is a routine. I like seeing the routine as it tells me the flight is going as expected. The bell dings just after take-off for the cabin crew to get up. The tea trolley comes out. The seat-belt sign goes off. The captain tells you the weather at your destination. The perfume trolley comes around etc. You might be stressed but the people who fly that flight 5 times a day show you it's just the same as ever. |
