Generally if they have a bus pass it's because they cannot afford a to pay or have a disability. Why make their lives worse?
It always grinds my gears when don't like others getting something for free with out looking past the free part and on to why the might have it |

Didn't even notice in the city, in fact it was probably less busy without all the culchie cabs blocking it up. It's a concern though, how many do they employ? |

Around 2500 they employ Candy xx"
Ouch! Because I can't see it remaining unless the government steps in to save it. |

"As ye all know bus Erin is going on strike as of midnight tonight what are your thought's think people with bus passes should pay 1€ a trip "
Why would be do that , the large majority of people with busses passes are on extremely low incomes.
Meanwhile two people getting a bus most places accumulates to near that the price of a taxi.
"Bus Erin" have C.E.O's on ridiculous wages , when the solution of saving money comes up your never going to fix it by taking it from the people who have the least , if you do that the money filters up to the rich.
this problem needs to be fixed from the top down.

Their is a bigger issue to this. The efficiency and cost of running unprofitable routes is what is causing this.most people that use rural bus services are elderly and Oaps who do not pay and therefore the routes can never be profitable. Running a 50 seater bus for a route that never gets more than 10 people on it is another cost they carry not to mention their fleet being too old and not always available in which case they hire in buses from competitors for crazy prices daily.Competitors run motorway routes profitably because they dont have to travel to far flung rural areas that require public transport.Do not mistake Dublin Bus with the Bus Eireann issues.Bis Eireann prices are excessive for the average man to use on a regular basis. The cork to youghal service for example is daylight robbery and as long as the prices remain high then demand will be down for these routes.Bus Eireann get subsidised as it and presently lose 500k a day when they are striking.I dont know what the solution is but I hope it gets solved as the Bus Eireann provide a vital service to the public particularly to rural areas where taxis are not an option.i just don't know how their business can be ever profitable if they maintain the status quo.I hope they get some.intervention because alot of people are hugely inconvenienced because of this and rely on them daily to get to work,hospital,etc.. |

There's a lot of issues going on here the private bus operators pay a lot less to the extent that many drivers working for these private bus operators are on income support u could call it a kind of subsidy from the state in that we help pay their wages
The condition and safety of these private busses has to come under closer scrutiny I know of one bus impounded mid rum for only having three studs holding on a wheel how do I know this the driver refused to take it out and was dismissed the company owner brother then took that same bus on the run and the bus was stopped inspected and impounded
The contracts for these direct routes is up for grabs in the coming years and bus eirran want to be in a position to compete for these profitable runs there is 1300 drivers with 1150 support staff in bus eirean it's top heavy with large salary and benefits packages to the top brass but yet they want to cut bus mens wages and cull routes that provide a lifeline to so many
It's time the unions did their job and defend the rights of workers take on these private operators to pay a living wage to employees and trim down the top heavy semi-state organisation not only the busses but all the other jobs for the boys clubs |

"It's going to get worse before it's gets better
When Dublin folk are affect - now become a bigger problem "
Well as a Dublin man that got affected badly by the strike I'll put it this way.
Fuck the lot of them. Throwing a picket on Dublin bus is fair enough but taking the rail network out is bang out of order.
No warning at all is a disgrace and I'm hoping that they stay out. The union will fold and so will the company
Good riddance to the lot of them |

There is a much better solution to this. If they want to protest they should do their jobs but do not collect fares. People do not get out out and the company gets hit in the pocket. They squeeze the company but maintain public support and service |

In theory yes but.....
Instant sacking for the drivers as the fuel being filled and used and taking the bus out would be considered theft. The union would not have a leg to stand on. |
