I'm not going to say that I knew him well, we only spoke a few times. He was committed to his cause, when he advocated the use of force, he did so wholeheartly. Equally when he took up democratic means of advancing his cause, he committed his all. It takes a lot of courage to sit down with your former enemies and say 'go ahead, I'm listening'. QE2 was able to shake his hand and be cordial. Both of them lost family and friends here. I'm disappointed but not surprised by the vitriol and venom displayed by people whose ignorance of what actually happened here, why lives were wasted, is deafeningly loud. | |||

The ANC killed people by putting tyres filled with petrol around their victims necks and set it alight. Nelson Mandela was as much responsible for that as Martin McGuinness was for all the things he's been accused of. | |||
