Anyone yet seen the latest X-Men/Wolverine movie, Logan?
Set to be the final appearance of both Hugh Jackman in the title role and of Patrick Stewart as Professor X (both of whom debuted in the 2000 X-Men film), this is a grittier, lower-key film than any other in the series, particularly last year's OTT Age of Apocalypse.
The film finds Logan, finally ageing and with his healing factor wearing off, caring for Prof X, who is heading towards senility, with the result that his powerful mind is now essentially a weapon of mass destruction. Together with Caliban, a surprisingly effective performance by Stephen Marchant of The Office and Extras fame, they comprise the last known mutants. But things don't stay that way for long...
Jackman took a pay cut to get a more restrictive rating and it shows in the frequent swearing and, particularly, in a more gruesome use of Wolvie's claws than we've ever seen before. Don't bring the kids!
No doubt plenty of fab ladies will be swooning over Hugh's frequent shirt-off scenes, apart from anything else! |

Quite possibly the best comic book movie ever! I loved it. Great to see filmmakers not have to soften something down or compromise to get more cinema seats filled. |
