Kurt Cobain

He would have been 50 today, well, yesterday, as it just passed midnight.

I can't picture him as an older man. I wonder what he'd be up to nowadays if he lived. How sad would it be to see him on Celebrity Big Brother. Perhaps it's poetry that he died when he did.

An absolute legend though, and one of my teenage heroes.

Like all geniuses (Genii??), Kurt Cobain was a flawed man which added to his legend. I would have been interesting to see him and the band mature but clearly was never destined to be..

Some fantastic music all the same

A number of music historians believe the song did you sleep last night is derived from the Irish song an raibh tú ar an gcarraig.

Nirvana played sir henrys in cork supporting sonic youth back in the early 90s, while in cork conbain took a walk around the city and ended up talking to a homeless man, the homeless man was wearing a red at black striped jumper, cobain bought the jumper off him, this is the jumper he wears in the song sliver and while playing concerts Fact!, he also traced his ancestral roots back to cork! Can't remember the original name but it was changed to cobain when his relations moved to America. Also while he was in cork with the band and sonic youth he broke down crying for no apparent reason he said that he just felt a connection to this place (cork). He traced his family roots by ringing every number in a phone book in Seattle!

We still have pearl jam though!

Best thing to come out of Nirvana was Dave Grohl.

Shots fired. (pardon the pun)

Head above the parapet - I agree.

The word "genius" is sadly overused these days.

He was never close to being a genius and if he hadn't died early, he'd be no better thought of than a plethora of similarly talented musos......
