It will take longer to recover until you are used to it dont always keep increasing. Stay at a distance drop back down maybe once or twice and gradually increase eg go to 14 14 maybe 10 to 12 back to 14 then up again to 15 or similiar youll know your limits

Dont run alone if you can avoid it and change your runs around to avoid boredom.

Dogs are the bane of a runners life lol

I've made a couple of attempts to start the 'Couch to 5K' app. Had a fairly stressful week this week, so going to start properly tomorrow.

It looks doable, anyone tried it?

My running experience, zero!

It's very doable...I couldn't put one foot in front of the other a few years ago..get good trainers and decent music and away you go..remember its not all about speed..pace yourself

My running experience, zero! "

Try run with someone it is a big big help. Also no shame in stopping to walk if you become tired or sore. And everyone will have a bad run so dont let that get you down either

I have been out running in the cold and I nearly prefer it to summer, I find I get tired easier on a summers evening due to the heat but can run longer in the cold. It's also about the right clothing I ran in November in the frost in just a pair of shorts a long sleeve compression top and a light jacket and was perfectly warm

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Yeah exactly. U dehdryate quicker in summer and that in turns leads to cramp and strains or injuries

Reply privately, Reply in forum +quote or View forums list

By (user no longer on site)  over a year ago

There is no such thing as bad weather it's only bad clothing. As King Kelly would say... Also if you think the weather is too bad out to train, go out, train and when you come back you will know if it was too bad out to train.

Map My Runs is pretty class of you are running. It breaks down all the statistics of your runs. How far, the speed per km, calories burned, how high you climbed if in a hilly area. Keeps you motivated able to see everything you achieved in your computer screen

My fav is the cold and frosty mornings. I'm a fairly regular runner and infrequent cyclist. The commutes are a killer. Not very fast at either, but I get there. Any other Corkonians gearing up? Maybe the Cork marathon in June?

All the best with it, you should look at going to your local parkrun on a Saturday, people of all abilities from walker's to fast runners

I sympathise there. It's something I've struggled with this year. As a suggestion to the runners posting here, what about a regular forum post for runners to post up their daily training/comp runs.

Any standard from couch to ultras, just outlining how they got on and hopefully get some positive feedback from other fabbers.

I run most distances from 100m when I was younger to moving up to 5k 10k half and fulls. Running has taken over my life literally. I'm now coaching all distances professionaly as well as my own training so spend all my time at it.
