Is social networking sites dangerous because of young kids and are parents to blame for not controlling it enough or should social sites be more responsible for it. |

I have a parental app on my eldest sons tablet. It's blocks a lot of stuff from popping up and stops him from watching certain things as well. It's really good. If he types in certain words it sends me a message while also blocking the content. I can also use it to control how much time he get on his tablet.
That being said there was a music app that he was on and he started getting massages from some guy asking how old he was and where exactly he is from. I wouldn't have had a clue only he came to tell me.
There's a certain amount we can do but I also believe we should educate our kids. That way if we miss something they know to come to us. |

I have friends who give out about guys trying to contact there kids. Does frustrate me. If they didn't allow there kids on Facebook and Snapchat then they wouldn't have that problem. It must takes a little common sense and some people just don't have it. I have seen kids as young as 10 with Facebook and Snapchats
Maybe I'm to anal but I'd rather try keep my kids for as long as I can. |

The problem with all of this is that as parents we cannot protect them all the time. Even if we could would it actually be good for them?
I think the best a parent can do is teach, making sure they understand the dangers, give tools and help them use the tools effectively. After all are we not wanting them to do well out in the world. I'd also want them to be able to teach their own effectively too. A legacy we as parents wish for all of them. The ability to make good choices for life ahead of them.
It's a hard call in each circumstance too as each child is different and each have different levels of discernment and understanding.
They and we also learn from mistakes. ...they can be a good teaching aid. We hope the mistakes are minor and not major. |
