"Was booked into a hotel for the old skool night, which has been cancelled.
Has any others tried to cancel the hotel and found out that they will be still charged, or is there away around it???"
Check if you booked a cheaper non refundable deal, if not hotel is taking the piss if it's more than 48 hours and refusing to refund.
Worst best case scenario you organise a fab meet

Contact the bank and make sure the payment cannot be authorised
If they have charged already reverse the payment.
Still over 3 weeks so bad form on the hotels side |

Most hotels will offer a cheaper room price on the condition that you accept that it is non-refundable. They're obviously legally obliged to make you aware of this but I have seen the notice in small print on occasions.
Check if this has happened and if it has then I'm sorry, you're obliged to pay. Or you can always destroy your card and report it stolen as someone already suggested. |

"I more than likely will just end up keeping the room and going out in blanch for the night.
Fecked if I am going to give them money for nothing or destroy my card. Lol"
Only takes a couple of days to get a new one |

That's the one good thing about booking . Com. The last two events we went to we booked with free cancellation. We actually booked a couple of different places as we were sure of the location and when we got the details which thankfully was just inside the time limit for cancellations we didn't have to pay. Just kept the one closest to the event.
Hotels are pretty good at covering there ass on this, just use the room anyway even if it's to chill out and go for a few drinks |

A non refundable room is not always the best option even though it works out cheaper. Sometimes they will say special conditions when you go to book a room and that's always in your interest to click on and read.
This same situation happened to me for a meet and greet that was cancelled in Galway many moons ago. Myself and a friend still made the trip down and there was other fellow fabbers there that had non refundable rooms. It ended up being a great night.
Maybe there's other's in the same boat and ye can meet up and have a great time |
