I've a ten yr old. I'm certain it's her last year for believing.
My oldest was not as young as her....
The magic of Christmas for me will be over once she finally admits she knows the truth.....Ia kids getting younger do you think ?

My 10 year old still believes too. But I guarantee the second he finds out he'll tell his 8 yr old brother. And then the magic of Christmas in that sense will be over. On the upside when they ask for a laptop I can tell them to go shite it's too expensive.  |

Why oppose children having the belief in santa claus? I grew up having the best memories of my childhood at xmas and believing. Hes a childs friend and guider. He embodies hope love and peace. Santa shows children to care for others before yourself and also brings magic into a childs life. The reindeer dust, the presents in the morning and the empty plate mean something to a child. To not allow that is denying them the simple joy of believing. |

My 4 yr old said to me the other day, while looking at the photograph we had taken together with santa; "that's not santa, that's just a man in a suit, I know it is" |

My kids have never asked. We have never really discussed santa. I just tell them all about the magic of Christmas. I know it's not a magical time for everybody but for some it is. It's always been magical for me from the time I was small. A time for family to get together and the kids to get excited over all the small things. The Christmas lights going up, the tree, the little shopping trips to get one or two small presents for their grandparents and godparents. |

I dont think its cruel Casey. Its tradition passed down through belief and a myth yes. Children soon grow to being adults and childhood is a memory.They are encouraged from an early age to use their imagination and to believe in themselves. Then its carried on into adulthod where their self belief makes them be, the best that they can be. These values are instilled into their own children and so the tradition continues. Ill be very sad when my youngest stops believing in the man that wears the red suit. Hopefully by then, ill have grandchildren to continue on the spirit of xmas that is in all children.  |

I've 2 that still believe ones 11 others 8, the 8 yr old is wiser than the 11 yr old though and he's constantly asking think the only reason they believe is neither of them believe that I'd be buying them what's on their lists.
As for the 12 yr old he plays the game because he knows what side his bread is buttered  .
The main excitement in our house this year has been the school plays and learning songs and their lines..... it's the simple things that kids remember xxx |

I said of course it was the real one how else would he have known what u wanted for xmas and ur teachers name and dancing etc! But if it comes up again I might say that |

My son told his younger sister that the tooth fairy didnt exist .... next tooth she lost the tooth fairy was very generous
He had it explained in simple terms that tooth fairies (me) dont give money to people who say they dont believe
Then i asked him what he thought would happen at xmas if he said he didnt believe in father xmas or told his sister
He was 11 - burst into giggles and went off singing "i saw mummy kissing santa claus"

What im saying is it allows a child to grow up knowing the difference between reality and play and the belief in making choices for themselves.What happens to a child into adulthood after the belief in santa, is down to parenting and guidance. Theres no children in the world ever born mean or vindictive, nasty or cruel. |

I went to great lengths with my lad a few years ago when he announced that he had doubts
..sleigh bells ringing in the night... an old goat bell I had found buired in the back of the shed mysteriously caught hanging from the gutter of the house with Moss from the roof knocked to the patio..
His face Xmas morning was worth a million bucks.
He still has the bell  |

No I don't think so. I have five and the oldest one believed until he was 14 . If he stopped believing he got nothing. There was nothing for a few years and now it's my grandchildren and I'm in my second childhood with them. |

My now 15 year boy stopped believing at 7 after it went around the school. Was highly annoyed. My 8 year girl old still believes and hopefully that will last for many more years . I find that that Xmas is more fun and magical with my girl than my boy. But thankfully I have a 1 and a half years old so there will be the fun of Xmas in my house for hopefully 10 more years |
