I've been waiting for ages for things to get better. Sometimes it seems like they never will.

Im fine

Look beyond the laughter the jokes the messing around. Look into the eyes. It's said to be the window to the soul and if you look you will see a dead stare ,a black hole that all joy and happiness have been eradicated.

Living on the edge of a fine line between numbness and despair daily takes its toll. The only escape from this hellish cycle is sleep. However this nocturnal bliss from dreams sweet kiss is only rewarded to you after a fierce and draining battle between mind and soul . It doesn't matter which side wins the end result still takes its toll on you .

The scars of battle are deep and twisted mutilations that are invisible to anyone else yet just as painful as wounds of the flesh . No one knows what goes on inside this sick and and diseased mind. Sure people know your upset but they do not and cannot know the crushing isolated painstaking world where you are the sole inhabitant.

You do not leave anyone get close. Your defensive walls go up to keep society out for both your and their protection . Your functional that's all you can be. Routine keeps you someway sane and stops you from thinking ,stops the battle cry that is screaming inside your consciousness.

A blood curdling spine chilling sound more unnerving than anything you have ever expierenced yet you expierence it on a daily basis. Abandon all hope ye who enter here because in this mental prison cell, in this solitary confinement there is no early release.

There is no reprieve, no pardon by the govner at the 11th hour. There are indeed 7 levels of hell ,but not in some afterlife. This torment, this suffering constant agony is forever on going and through life's ironic twist it isn't thrust upon the guilty or deserving .

Tormented daily exhausted from battling a never ending war that cannot ever be won . This isn't life this is survival .

Light many a candle my children

Depression and suicide are the scourge of our time. Mental health treatment needs to be greatly improved in this country

The government and the HSE don't care about suicide, or suicidal people. Unfortunately things won't really get better, until some political will develops to deal with helping vulnerable people. Dealing with suicidal people and seeing the pathetic way the HSE and some medical professionals treat them, makes me so frustrated. Days like today help lessen the stigma people feel, but it's only a step towards dealing with an issue that kills more people in this country, than road deaths and drug addiction combined.

Through my work in the parish i have observed that the hse only really push pills anti depressents and anti anxiety pills to try and medicate the issue rather than put supports in place to fully deal with the problem head on

A cardinal sin in my eyes

It's a scourge, I have struggled with it goes years and yes with the right funding there could great help out there. I've tried a couple times to end it all and go to sleep hoping at times I don't wake up. One thing I've learned is that there is always hope. Talking to someone really helps. Also it's important to remember that the night is darkest just before the dawn.

And unfortunately your story is the rule, not the exception.

Triage nurses in A&E are not trained or capable of dealing with suicidal patients. Yet they are the first point of contact in most cases. People with severe suicidal ideation get told to go home and sleep it off, as if they were d*unk.

The HSE is built on the medical model, a pill for every ill. Their psychiatrists if you are lucky enough to see one, will see you for 5 or 10 mins and prescribe drugs. That's not even enough time for an effective assessment, let alone a clinical treatment.

that is the crux of the issue everything you say is true iv both seen it and been on the reviving end of it.

The health service is as you say based on the medical model rather than actually dealing with the depression ideation or the intent of suicide

We need mental health specialist teams at every hospital

However that would be costly so unfortunately will not be implemented unless there is public uproar and the ministers feel its the only way theyll keep their seats next election

Strength

In a world of torment you get up and face it head on on a daily basis.  You suffer in silence  not daring to inflict your mental anguish on anyone else.

They can't know how could they youve build tall impenetrable walls to keep you safe from society and society from you.  Trust in people has long been assassinated.  Taken from you so ruthlessly that it can never be reborn.

How do you destroy a persons soul mind and body, tell them you will love them forever and then dissappear taking the life ye had awat with you.   Living in darkness where like a black hole light cannot exist inside it.

Promethues was punished with reliving the same mundane existence repeated  for all eternity so must you.  But this mundane exercise isn't physical its mental.  Facing those demons every waking moment for all time.  Those disturbing voices plotting against you demeaning you and slowly killing your very soul .

There is no escape from yourself  the only relief you know will come at death but you refuse to leave anyone behind to suffer.  You suffer so they don't have to.  You will not be the cause of anyone else's pain...ever .

No one understands how could they.  This is an illness this isn't what normal and sane people  go through.  A chemical imbalance triggered by real world events which no combination of pills therapy or medication can cure.

Mental anguish exhausts you both mentally and physically to the point of no return.  You are on the brink between pain and nothingness.

You choose pain always.  Choosing to face it head on forever rather than inflict your torture on anyone else until the end of time

It's more the stigma attached than anything else, I have lost a few loved family members to suicide and it is horrible, been close to it myself a few times but managed to claw my way back, the way this country looks at suicide and doesn't talk about it is half the problem, I have to say I got superb service from my local gp and HSE services when they were required......

It requires building a relationship and that takes time. There is no quick fix solution, no magic bullet. It takes building a trusting relationship with the right skilled person. The HSE do not want to fund this. They are now outsourcing all this to Pieata House, a brilliant organization that's already woefully under funded.

Unfortunately when you suffer from depression your own mind can be your own worst enemy. You truly do think and feel that although your loved ones will be upset for a bit that they will move on and have a better life without you. You feel that the only way to.stop your pain and theirs is to take yourself out of the equation. Well that's how I felt anyway

Usually when you reach the point of suicide you have tunnel vision you want to make the torment stop.

Usually when you reach the point of suicide you have tunnel vision you want to make the torment stop."

you dont think of anything but death you cant think of nothing else

Unfortunately when you suffer from depression your own mind can be your own worst enemy. You truly do think and feel that although your loved ones will be upset for a bit that they will move on and have a better life without you. You feel that the only way to.stop your pain and theirs is to take yourself out of the equation. Well that's how I felt anyway"

spot on mate

Me too. I could give 100 convincing, plausible reasons why I was better off gone.

Like I said your own mind works against you to convince you that you're better of gone

so much I could say on this thread, but then a lot of it would give away too much about me, it saddens me that the world we live in takes so much out of us every waking hour and some just can't deal with it, I have it a candle and I am not gonna dwell on it all too much tonight as it may be a bit much for me.....

"The government and the HSE don't care about suicide, or suicidal people.

A cardinal sin in my eyes"

Completely agree

The paradigm of care on offer here is clearly not working.

Late post but agree with everyone.

This is why I take negativity and bully tactics head on, never let others make you feel less of a person because the smallest comments can have serious reproductions on your mental health, especially when they build up.

Having overcome attempted suicide myself I know this for a fact. Opening up and fighting back is the only way to overcome it because there is no cure. Be proud, bold, confident and tell others how great you are until you believe it yourself, stamp on their negative judgement.

People suffering depression are the strongest of us because they fight for their lives when things are up and down, every day, keep fighting

Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote a beautiful quote which i think might benefit those who suffer from depression.

When you get into a tight place and everything turns against you, till it seems you could not hang on a minute longer, never give up then, for that is just the time and place that the tide will turn.

Thanks goodness that noone has taken the piss with this thread. Good times dont last forever... Only days.. Even lottery winnets tire of it. If you can remember that bad days dont last forever... If you can man up for a day or two and be determined to survive the shortest time, however you can, then better times WILL return.
