I agree. But at least you can have the stake cooked exactly as you like it. I am always conscious of making sure the stone does not fall - could have very serious consequences for any fun for some time. |

All of the Louis Fitzgerald pubs do it. They have an offer of some sort on Tuesday nights as far as I can remember. Carroll's and The Penny Hill in Lucan. The Poitín Still at Rathcoole. Numerous others as well. |

"Ah go on now next you will be saying why buy a salad or a sandwich when you can make it your self. "
Nothing like that. I buy a sandwich so I don't have to make it myself. A much more accurate example would be buying a sandwich and then being handed all the ingredients and being told to make it yourself. |

"I've never heard of this steak on a stone malarkey, what's wrong with a grill or frying pan?....."
They don't like diners to access the flames. You could put some garlic butter on the stone to fry it I suppose.... |

"I can burn food at home without paying to do it.
Have the reason to eat out is that someone else cooks for you."
It's already cooked rare when it comes out. If rare is your thing then you're good to go. Otherwise you have to wait a few minutes. There's something of a novelty element to it. |

I wouldn't want to share a dining table with anyone who orders a steak on a stone. Why would anyone want to get splattered with fat and ruin a nice outfit?

It's more like booking a hotel room and discovering that the blankets are folded down to the bottom of the bed. You can either make do with that or you can pull them up. No biggie. |

Surely if yer steak's not sizzling, then the stone is too cold to to cook it?
If it's sizzling, it's splattering |

"Where would you get a nice steak on a stone for two in co. Dublin , "
Lott's cafe bar, lower liffey Street do a lovely steak on a stone. Good value too. You get 2 steaks, 2 salads and a bottle of wine for 35 euro Sunday to Wednesday. It's 45 euro for that plus two extra sides at the weekend. It was lovely when i had it, and the wine was nice too. |

It's dry heat. It works. It's not a discussion. |

Don't try it so. I don't think too many restaurants would be doing it if they were going to have to pay dry cleaning bills with each one. It doesn't splatter. As an experiment, cook a steak to rare, take it off the plan and place it on a very hot plate. Observe the splattering, or lack thereof. Check the steak later and see if it's still rare. I'm willing to bet is advanced somewhat from rare and that's only on a hot plate. |

I have seen it served aboard. I've observed the waiter bring a big bib for the person who ordered the steak and I've automatically assumed that was to stop their clothes getting splashed as the cooked their own dinner. No one else at the table got a bib.
Think I'll let the chef cook mine, they're professionals and if they over cook it, I can send it back |

I was going to try it and asked the waitress about it.
She handed the cooking instructions to me which I read.
When I got to the end I saw
"When cooked to your satisfaction, stand for 3 minutes, then enjoy!"
so I ordered a Salad instead!
Feck that, no one was going to rob my chair!!

But surely the whole idea of going out to a restaurant is that you don't have to do the feckin cooking or the cleaning or anything else either except sip on your wine or pint or whatever while your meal is being cooked |
