Reviews for this book normally go along the lines of 'I don't really read books but I liked this one' It's fairly basic that positive thinking will improve your perspective, that would surely be a fundamental feature of thinking positively. If it helps people get by then that's great but comes across as a bit gimmicky to me.. Simple shit sells |

I've read it and try live it every day. Life's a lot easier when everyone is positive and spreads more love. I've definitely been happier since and I've won competitions and stuff too. I believe it can make a change. |

I've read it, and watched the film and love the positive thinking and attitude of gratitude
However! I don't believe in the law of attraction, I believe in the power of perception
The more you notice, acknowledge and are grateful for all the good in your life; the more you see it. Same goes for negative thinking. So if you are a negative thinker and begin with the law of attraction you believe that it's the law of attraction that has brought them into your life when in fact they have been there all along but you were too blind to see them
There is no harm in the book or the movie but there is too many questions. Like if you want something bad enough, like an Olympic athlete for example, you train every day, believe in your self and your ability to win. Then you come second? Is that coz the other person wanted it more??
The effort you put into having a happy life is what you get back out in my opinion. A simple thing like a gratitude journal will make the world of difference when your starting out with mindfulness and positive thinking |

One of the things the secret gets absolutely right is that it is important to be positive and think positive thoughts . The rest of it is just bullshit and dangerous, thinking positive and practising affirmations alone won't get you success .
You have to take an active role in getting the things you want . Waiting for the universe to give you things without working hard for your dreams will get you no where . |

"OP you should watch Derren Brown The Secret of Luck. It's really insightful! Really ?? Is it that good"
It shows you the power of positive thinking. People who were positive saw money on the ground whereas negative people overlooked it. Stuff like that. |

Like many books spawned by the sense of disconnection in modern life. The secret cashes in on a huge placebo affect. If you can get people to shift their perception, it will alter their reality. The circumstances don't change or get any better by reading the book. How people perceive them does and in doing that life becomes better. For this to work you need to buy into it completely and abandon logic or reason. It's effectively like going to see a fortune teller. You walk away and look for things that match what you have been told and in doing so you create the reality of the fantasy.
If it works for you, well and good. As far as I'm concerned every little helps. But it's a million dollar industry that doesn't bring anything new to the table. |

I've read the book and its follow up "the power" I'm not sure it's presented in the best way but the principles behind some of the ideas are similar to self hypnosis etc.
The author got a lot of her ideas (basically copied) a much earlier work by a guy named Wallace d wattles from the early 1900's he was part of a thing called "the new thought movement" at the time. There's a few similar books/ideas out there Joseph Murphy is a mid twentieth century author writing about the same ideas
From my own experience I think there is some merit in it and even if it is a placebo does that matter if it works? |
