Just wondering how sophisticated this community is. I'm pretty sure I'm not only one who rather read book then movie which it is based on it. So here is my question. What book you read lately. What writers you lake and what is your favourite genre of book.
I'm lately into fantasy books, because name itself is letting you know your imagination could go crazy mad and nobody could tell you this could never happened.
I started long time ago with Tolkien. Then recently I've awoken my love to fantasy with George R.R.Martin. after that Robin Hobb, Mark Lawrence,Patrick Rothfuss... Now I'm reading Polish author Sapkowsky with Witcher series which same name of video game is based on.
I'm also wondering how many of you will mention 50 shades.  |

I don't think enjoying reading is an indication of sophistication? I read 50 shades and didn't think it was great but that's coz we are spoilt with the real thing here
I read all the time, and there was a book club thread up on here before so there's plenty of us book worms around! |

Just finished Chris Cleve the other hand. Brilliant. Monsieur Linh and his child. And the sexual life of Catherine M. Autobiography of a swinger. Three completely different genre's but read all three at the same time...loved the diversity of them.
Khalid Hossenni is one of my favourite author's. Beautiful way with words. |

Reading is like art and life...no right or wrong...just personal preference.
It's about what you enjoy. I haven't read 50 shades but know Lot's of people who have and some hated it and some loved it...one of the most commonly used sentences on fab. .each to their own. |

I read all the time  , autobiographies , real life stories mainly ( I'm a sucker for a sad story lol ) but most recently I've been reading trilogies of filth the most recent being Dom/sub , I've read all 4 fifty shades they were ok but I've read better and the movie was a let down afterwards |

There's a book called " craving" supposed to be the new 50 shades. Haven't read it as I've enough to keep me busy but seems to be getting decent reviews. |

Sophistication is not gathered between pages in my opinion op, it is life experience and attitude. Book's educate and open you up to a different view point but what you do with that may or may not guarantee that you are sophisticated. I have met extremely well read asshole's and some very sophisticated well read people, some not so well read sophisticated people and unread unsophisticated asshole's too...such is life ...a varied bunch regardless of reading habit's.
I think the word you seek is educated as opposed to sophisticated and God knows Ireland is a country that can vouch for the fact that educated does not mean sophisticated. Just my opinion. |

Reading for sure does educate, novels and fiction enhance you fantasy as the brain made movie is running over the virtual screen your mind is projecting.
Books over different views how to interprete the world allows to acquire the understanding that the world is not black and white but has millions of colors in different shades, each combination with a brighter and a darker side or even multiples thereof.
DIY books prevent that you try to reinvent the bicycle for the 5th time
Cook books teach you a lesson how to seduce a lady of your fancy(very abstract ,I know. But try it ones it may open an entire new world)
Erotica is better than porn movie, similar to fiction the brain made cinematographic takes you on voyages leaving you with crave for more
And with all the education swallowed by screening thousands of characters printed on paper or displayed on kindl screens one reveals that the more you know the more you understand that you need to know more 
Oh and even reading printed bullshit is educative as it sharpens the skills to identify the same as such  |

Have to say got The Game of Thrones set when it was first out...nobody saw me that whole Christmas until the 6 books were finished!! Read a lot but generally forget the author and title when I'm done...but I do like Jodi Picoult. |

Big John Connolly fan....love the Charlie Parker series, really dark and brooding with a hint of the supernatural. Also read a lot of Irish Crime Fiction as its so good at the moment....Stuart Neville, Declan Hughes, Adrian Mc Kinty. And American Crime Fiction also...particularly Michael Connolly and George Pelecanos. |

Suffer from or am a 'Tsunduko' a Japanese word for buying books and letting them pile up unread! Find it near impossible to walk into a bookshop and leave with one arm as long as the other
Recent top class reading material has included Station Eleven by Emily St John Mandel, in fairness all her books are good reads; 4th of July Creek by Smith Henderson; American Rust by Philipp Meyer; Frozen Dead by Bernard Minier. Most other reading tends to be crime novels - Dennis Lehane, James Lee Burke, Lawrence Block, George Pelencanos, Robert Crais, Michael Connelly, Ian Rankin, Hakan Nasser, Ake Edwardson, Arnaldur Indridason etc etc. I love books me |

Recently finished John Grisham A Time To Kill follow up called Sycamore Row, which I enjoyed. Then made the mistake of thinking I'd just start on the first chapter of Stephen King's Finders Keepers and of course it was 2am before I slept, as I couldn't stop reading! Love his books. The Dark Half is probably his most violent, Rose Madder is his most cat n mouse thriller, a bit like Sleeping With The Enemy.
Only book that ever made me jump was Thomas Harris - Red Dragon, first of the Hannibal trilogy, which are well worth a read.
All In My Honest Opinion above.

50 shades wouldn't be great if you were a vanilla pod. Poorly written fan fiction, of a not particularly well written tween fantasy. I'm pretty sure the author is a virgin given how badly the sex scenes were written. |

My wife loved the female character. She identified with her (I started tying her up a little bit before the book came out)
She knows it's badly written but she loved the love story. And if you look at it like a love story it's grand. It's not a bdsm instruction manual and shouldn't be looked at like one |

Bit of a book worm here. So I began with Darren Shan and I have met him a few times, lovely chap. Then the usual lotr and harry potters and game of thrones pre hbo. Lately I have found myself reading a lot of Ghrisham, Patterson and Karen Slaughter crime drama style books. Then again i'm the person who buys a book at the start if every month , so any suggestions are also welcome |

O Brother Where Art Thou is based on Homer's Odyssey. Brilliant funny movie with great acting and music. A Coen brothers classic. Recommended for all. |
