Anyone else not understand some internet slang/ text speak and have to use google to translate. Like recently I had to google FML , YW and ROFL.
I really had a giggle to myself when I realised the term DOMS used by my fellow exercise ladies, was not what I thought but Delayed onset muscle soreness i.e. the pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise. Boy was i disappointed
So do you care to share your internet slang faux pas, or if you are fluent in text speak, give us an example of a sentence, that I'll scratch my head at, then google |

I can't do text speak .... A few of my friends seem incapable of using vowels in most of the words and insist on putting in all those rotfl and lmao stuff into every text they send........ And they wonder why it takes me 40 minutes to decipher it to reply !!! |

No need to decipher. A friend kindly translated for me. No wonder I couldn't get a translation on google |

OMG IMHO I H8 TXT SPK LOL WTF ROFL WTH LMAO IDK HAHA STFU JK BRB TTYL
Ask yourself this, did that make me look alluring, engaging or dare I say it in any way attractive?
No.
I find it lazy, lackadaisical, passive, lethargic, slow moving, lifeless and non sensical.
That said I understand it developed as a as a money-saving technique... text messages were charged per page, which is measured in characters. Of course, this may seem irrelevant to thirty-somethings plus with a cushy salary and a certain level of age snobbery, but the youth of today are generally struggling for money.
It's all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits. |

ROFL = Rolling on floor laughing
LMAO = Laughing my ass off
SMH = Shaking my head
IMO = In my opinion
IDK = I don't know
IDC = I don't care
The list goes on... there's a lot of acronyms, not so much in texts these days, but very common on most internet threads and forums. I don't usually use them, but find its useful to know

With 3 teenagers myself and having spent time on a forum frequented by young adults from the US, I'm pretty familiar with most acronyms, kindof surprises me when people my own age are completely oblivious to them, that said, I don't use them much, old habits die hard and nothing worse than an oldster trying to be down with the kids (cringe) |
