No caller ID

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

I know this isn't the place to post this, but just wondering if anyone else gets hassled by a "no caller id"?

I think it's some sort of automated service as when I answer it's blank and will have another no caller ID call coming through. when I press cancel it leaves a blank voicemail. Happens every few wks and in he last hour I've had 57 calls.

I rang my provider and they can't do anything as there is no number attached and suggested I go to the guards!

Anyone else have anything like this happen?

Don't fancy changing my number we use my phone for work and too many people have the number

I may ring the guards and ask them what they can do, don't really want to be wasting their time either as I think it's some sort of spam and not malicious

Out in the sticks

Yes you should report it to Gardai.

Just because you can't see the Called ID your provider can see the number that is calling you. If your provider won't tell you then the Gardai can get it!

Pure harassment!!

Also there's always the chance that it isn't an automated thing and is malicious.

not really much the guards can do for you unless it's someone actually threatening you.

The guy in 3 said they can't do anything but did mention to go to the guards as is considered harassment - he didn't say that they guards could get the number of who's doing it. I will call the guardi later and see what they suggest

Well that's true, it started on Xmas day which was why I thought it was some sort of automated thing as who would bother spending hours pressing redial on Xmas day but there are weirdos around!

Yes, I often get calls from a 'witheld' number or private number. No one there when I answer, and no sound from the other end. I blew a whistle really hard a few times, it didn't seem to have any effect. Because I've also been having Mail problems, I thought it could be related, but maybe someone knows what this is. I haven't had any calls in a few weeks, but they were pretty regular for most of the past year.

Yes it is harassment and the Gardai can get the phone records of the nuisance caller!!

No noise at al when I answer, dead silence so that's why I thought it was automated, that and when I do answer, another call comes through, if I keep answering and holding the calls keep coming, so I could have 30 answered calls at the same time

The guy in three suggested it could be a fax, but who faxes a mobile number!

Oh no! Maybe Someone incorrectly entered your number in a call log...

I used to get calls from an unknown number like that. I stopped answering the calls and eventually they have stopped. Might get one once a month now if even.

Lolli, you could try the 'Mr number' app, I had mixed success with it, it claims to be able to identify & block spam numbers.

I had the same thing happen me a few months back provider can't help as they can not block a blocked number...

I also went to the garda but they told me they could not trace the number as it was very expensive and only done for serious crime

Lasted for 6 days and I was getting over 400 calls a day

Then just stopped and thankfully nothing since

If continues they can put a trace on . I worked for a telecommunications company. It's nuisance calls. It's actually against the law to ring someone and cut phone off. If you ring a wrong number you must state sorry wrong number.

The phone company can trace it but only with a court order.

I just ignore calls where the number is witheld. If it's genuine, they will leave a voicemail or text me.

most new smart phones have a setting for barring no caller ids from ringing u. I was getting the same and they just show up as a missed call. If ur using an android phone go to call settings, call barring and u should see bar no ids.

No such thing as id withheld , if it continues , go to the Gardai , they tend not to take harressment lightly OP .

True, but the problem is how unprofessional it looks while in the office, if I turn my phone to airplane mode it means I miss work calls, so have to turn on the do not disturb and turn vibration off, it's constant once it begins

This is why I can't bar unknown numbers either and it would be way too much hassle to change numbers (I've 4 jobs)

Thanks for the advice guys and gals, next time it happens I'll head to the local garda station and let them see for themselves aswell

It's happened me a few times now ... But police no help .. Said I'd need to hand my phone to them and it'd be 3-6 months before I'd get it back ( though in that time they could find and trace who was making the calls ) just couldn't do without phone that long ( plus waaaay to much private stuff on phone hehe) .. So now I just don't answer any calls with no caller ID ... Hope u get sorted .. It's very annoying / frustrating x

the network can trace any number because of the unique number on phone or sim' unless some one buys a sim kit and don't register the number' which I don't think you can do anymore
