Good idea...
Some of the hardest workers in some of the toughest jobs.. long hours..night work..split shifts..tedious/boring jobs get the lowest wages.
It would make a huge change to their level of living |

That's true.. so this is where the gov should cover the €3+
Some probably can't.. that's where the gov should top up the extra €3+

Maybe they could put it towards upskilling? No, the employers shouldn't HAVE to pay that. |

I think you are correct. The European average for minimum pay is about EUR 8
. Lifting it up to 11.50 might makes Ireland attractive for low paid workers all over Europe whilst making it inattractive for most employers. They would go to other countries with lower labour costs. Only public services and local businesses would stay. The local SMES would run out of business as their costs for their services and products hike whilst I doubt that consumers are willing to absorb price increases. Increased labour cost in public services leads to budget deficits which usually are filled by more loans or by raising taxes. Also all landlords will see there chance to increase re ts e en more...
So...someone tell me this should work with 11.50
Or...is the OP suggesting a flat rate remuneration for all paid employees, increasing the low paid to 11.50 and decrease anyone else to the same. Don't think it would go down to well I suppose. And it will not work either. ...

It is easy to make demands when you are not the employer, the reality is staff is the biggest expense of an employer in the case of big corporations they cab probably absorb the cost but for small medium businesses it will be anahilation resulting in lost of jobs and collapse of the economy if the wedges are just bumped up like that!
Goverment giving an extra 3 euros stupidest thing i have ever heard imagine extra 3 euros per hour to all the minimum wedge workforce of ireland make the math that will break someone back!
Beside Ireland and its citizen are rich in comparison to many countries in the world, if you find yourselves short at the end of the month re budget yourself also there is social welfare office you can ask for salary supplement or rent allowance or fuel so many different things that can be applies for! Keep your receipts , medical expenses everything you can and always do your tax return at the end of the year.
Its easy to demand but is not easy to work especially work hard! |
