Hey so I mrquickfuck (seriously need to change our name lol) am turning 35 tomorrow and for some reason it's bothering me.. Like most of my birthdays are just a normal day but I'm evaluating my current life achievements ahem and I'm not happy with man I have become outside of my woman and my activities outside of swinging like my comedy club and attempted career as a stand up I find it hard to justify my 34 years up until now... Yes I suffer from depression and have my demons like we all do but I'm wondering do any of you guys feel the same growing another year older.. Apologies if this is not the usual type of thread

I'm forty next week. Revaluating your life isn't a bad thing. Remember its never too late to do anything you want. Set your goals and be the best version of you on a daily basis. If you do this, you can't look back with any disappointment. Good luck OP

Our lives have no meaning, other than that which we choose to assign to them - if your current life is unsatisfying, then you should perhaps assess each area and decide whether or not it has any real benefit for you - tangible or otherwise, there is no harm in admitting that you've tried something and it hasn't worked out.

Depression can make us very hard on ourselves, would someone else criticise you as harshly? Be kind to yourself, and take the time every day to recognise the things that are good in your life and be thankful for them. Take time out to relax, walk or other outdoor exercise is good for us mind and body. Assess your friendships, are any of them dragging you down? Cultivate the company of positive people and it makes you more positive in turn.

I read a good one recently:

I'm a 40 year old who thinks he's a 20 year old, until I hang around with 20 year olds and then then I think, "yep, I'm 40"

Congratulations, happy birthday!

Everyday I need to be thankful for something. I need to do something nice for someone else without being asked. Its the small everyday things that keep me happy. Life will have highs and lows. The higher the highs.. the more likely you will feel the lows. And feel them as very low. Chin up, look up, look out and take in your surroundings. Taking time to evaluate us always good.

Set short, medium and long term goals. Be specific, measured, achievable, realistic and timed. Have a time frame to work within, small things you can do regularly to achieve your end goal.

Always try to be grateful for what you have. Happy birthday xxx.

Hey man, you're not alone, most people feel that way at times but you need to stop being so hard on yourself, there's no minimum requirement that you have to reach by a certain age, all you really need to reach is happiness and you already seem to have in certain areas of your life. You don't have to justify your life, life is just life, no justification needed.

But I recognise you feel you're not being the best version of you that you can be, that's a good thing, now you and can take action to improve yourself, doing stand up was you taking action, forget about the result, it's the action taking that's key here, keep doing more of that and eventually something will stick.

A couple of things I found to be helpful was meditation, check out Eckhart Tolle and Tony Robbins. Also not to think how do I improve my one area of my life by 100% but rather think how do I improve each area of my life by 1%. Best of luck with it!

Happy birthday for tomorrow OP.

Having suffered from depression for most of my life i found the only way to get to grips with it was to start changing things in my life, only you can do that. Start with the little things and take one day at a time. Also dont punish yourself for having a bad day, be kind to yourself and remember the down days are predecessors for the good days.

Theres a lot of good advice on this thread and i hope it helps.

Oh and more importantly your 35, still a lot of life to live so make it count!

Felt exactly as you do , always mulling over my life, achievments, goals ect...

Then I had an extremely bad accident, still recovering ..

It sure brought home to me just how precious life is, there to be embraced through good times and bad...

Enjoy your birthday, hope you are getting help with your depression

Maybe you should start?? Theres no shame in depression the shame lies with the people who dont acknowledge it or worse, those who say things like 'what have you got to be depressed about'. Sooooo infuriating.

Anyway (im starting to rant). My offers always there babe x

Birthdays come and go. Some are better than others. Some hold more surprises than others. The main thing though is to believe and trust the family and friends you have around you. They will make birthdays and every thing else in between worth while.
