I was in the parade, myself and few others got together & dressed up in 1916 clothes & I have to say we really looked the part.....
..... it rained of course, in fact it poured out of the heavens, hailstones & everything & very windy..... well what a way to remember the 1916 rising..... |

Never let the facts get in the way of a good moan, but the Easter rebellion of 1916 was centered in Dublin, the rest of the country didn't get behind the rebellion till after the ring leaders were shot by firing squad. |

Hope you and the comrades all have your hearing aids with you for this evening after all those Army Deafness pay outs I assume your all deaf .
Some Highlights of the first hundred years of the State .
The state abdicated its role in all social services and let the Catholic church bugger our little children with impunity for most of the 100 years .
The State infected its own citizens with HIV and Hep C
A Taoiseach that was totally corrupt on such a grand scale we couldn't even comprehend was allowed into office , let run the country ,given a full pension and given a State funeral .
The State still exports unwanted pregnancies ,an Irish solution to an Irish problem.
The State allowed such a corrupt and dysfunctional planning , building and banking sector to run wild so now generations will fail to have decent affordable housing.
Over a million citizens had to emigrate
Achieved Tax Haven Status for Super Rich Corporations who now avoid paying tax all over the EU . Yes shaft the folk that granted us billions for infrastructure over the years we are very selfish neighbors .

Beef Tribunal
Mahon Tribunal
Lindsay Tribunal

Proud to be Irish

While I do agree with some of the points you make , I think today is still a proud day to be Irish !!
If you look at any county's history you will find corruption and abuse down through the years !
It's up to everyone to look after themselves and those around them because it's obvious that most governments don't give a shite about the peasants !! |

May be stating facts but would he rather be ruled by a brit government which has incidentally had similar scandals but is also still raping other countries throughout the world killing millions of people in the process? |

OP... your post was very endearing. I found today very moving and emotional. There are however ,those who dont quite grasp the loss of life that was endured 100 years ago who fought for a free state and for Ireland to be governed as an independent nation. We have a democracy which means governed with the people,by the people and for the people. The people voted these governments into power. Those that died would indeed turn in their grave for poor decision making. But today is a commemoration,to recall and respect those who died in those times. Slainte Op, im a proud lady today. |

Where were you and the Irish "army" when people were being ethnically cleansed and burnt out of their houses in Belfast and shot dead on the streets of Derry in the 70's by a foreign army??? |
