Cos I have always done it. That what i grew up with and my kids do it to.
I not practicing any religion, but I do welcome the opportunity to reflect and maybe change something. Last year, I give up facebook to spend more time with family and friends and since then my use is limited.
Sacrifice is good for the soul. The challenge of giving up a luxury. It shows how tough I can be when I set my mind to it.
Not for everyone, but I for one, will do Lent..and sure it not hurting anyone |

Never said that, I simply posed a question.
Lent was always a part of my childhood, have now left it behind.
I do not believe in the existence of a soul, so would feel like a bit of a religious hypocrite taking part.

I agree it's a Christian tradition, however it depends on the denomination of the particular Protestant church you belong to, some do, some don't, mine belongs to the latter (beside that i'm not religious at all). However it has never been of such importance as it is celebrated in the Catholic Church. |

Doing what I did last year, giving up nowt. Why adhere to a Catholic practice when you're on a swinging site, a tad hypocritical from where I sit.
I was raised a Catholic ( now non-practising ) I think lent has now become like Valentines Day, Easter & Christmas a must do. |

That you also go to mass every week and practice what the church teaches? Or do people just pick and choose which parts of the religion suits them? |

She's pretty clearly explained why she "does Lent", and that she doesn't practice any religion. Deciding that because you don't want to follow a particular ideology, all it's ideas and practices are therefore "bad" and you're a hypocrite if you adopt any, is ridiculous. |

Okay, my post was not about my religious beliefs, it was just a light hearted post....i am a christian, not practicing any religion. I am not judgemental at all. Each to their own. If we all believed the same, then the world would be a duller place. Surprised my post has caused responses like this. But thank you for airing your opinion. Happy Sunday |

Whether u agree with lent or not, whatever religion we are all, there is no need to call anyone on here a hypocrite. Lets keep it lighthearted which is the spirit this post was intended.

Ah lent. The 40 days of abstinence where at the end we all get chocolate eggs. Just like in biblical times. Sure didn't jesus stumble out of his tomb with a massive Yorke egg.
Now all ye bad little sinners choose something you like and refrain from using it for 40 days of if you want the vip pass to heaven make it 60

I don't do Lent, I try to stay away from things that I may fail at...Don't eat much chocolate, love a pint too much to give it up. I swear a lot but I'm told that people that swear a lot are more honest, I'm already eating a lot healthier than before Xmas, |

I'm the same. I don't do it for religious reasons, and I'm not part of any organised religion. but I do think periods of abstinence is good for the body and for the mind. I do this during Lent because it's as good a time as any other to do it, and others are likely to be doing the same thing so usually easier to manage in social situations. Also, if the thing I give up is something I have to spend money on, the money I save goes to charity (so I can't go on a big splurge afterwards ).

Unless you are religious, why would even consider it?
Cos I have always done it. That what i grew up with and my kids do it to.
I not practicing any religion, but I do welcome the opportunity to reflect and maybe change something. Last year, I give up facebook to spend more time with family and friends and since then my use is limited.
Sacrifice is good for the soul. The challenge of giving up a luxury. It shows how tough I can be when I set my mind to it.
Not for everyone, but I for one, will do Lent..and sure it not hurting anyone
I'm the same. I don't do it for religious reasons, and I'm not part of any organised religion. but I do think periods of abstinence is good for the body and for the mind. I do this during Lent because it's as good a time as any other to do it, and others are likely to be doing the same thing so usually easier to manage in social situations. Also, if the thing I give up is something I have to spend money on, the money I save goes to charity (so I can't go on a big splurge afterwards ).

"Why does this guy keep referring to himself by his name? It is very annoying and egotistical. I guess some people are stuck on themselves and their egos.

And what's ur problem, eh ??
The manbeast can refer to himself any way he's wants
He's a well know and well verified member of fab and highly thought of.
Maybe when you get the respect the man beast has then u too can refer to yourself in 3rd party
This is true "

It was easier when growing a beard meant you'd just given up in life. Now you have to look carefully.
Bring me some Peyote back Kaiser. Will you have 4g out there because I have something starting tomorrow in your honour... |

Ha ha, not your usual Saturday night tipple.
I think you will survive the abstinence, but good risk on Easter Sunday of overdosing on caffeine and alcohol.
Just imagine, you'll be a leaner, meaner manbeast with skin we ladies will be jealous of |

"No that's not for me. Why giving up something I enjoy? Life can be shitty enough, no need to make it worse. "
Yeah I do get that. I go off for lent something that is not so good for me that i over indulge in, something I can do without for a short period.
Notice I didn't choose fab to go off lol |
