Its called taking a break. If they want to hide their profile that's their business and choice.

I hide mine all the time, mostly hide when I'm not online, saves a backlog of mails and sometimes I like to browse forums without getting any mail. My profile, I'll hide, or be visible as much as I like. |

I was going g to leave for personal reasons about two months ago. Female friend pointed out that I would lose my verifications and hotlist etc. I didn't know at the time I could hide my profile but its a great way to keep your head down for a while when you have other things to deal with |

The choice is yours to hide your profile for what ever reason. Likewise it's your choice to alter your filters, show your verifications, show your summary of your verifications, show your photos or hide them, edit your text on your profile, block people if you wish.
Because....You guessed it's your profile.
