According to some boffins, skimmed milk can increase the risk of prostate cancer tumours while full-fat appears to lessen the risk...but for what it does to tea & cereal (although Coco Pops lessen this evil) I'm with you Laid. |

We try not to drink much milk in my house. Hubby has had asmtha and when he doesn't drink milk it almost vanishes. One of my kids has a mild intolerance to casein so we usually drink rice milk instead. We all take a vitD and calcium supplement instead. |

I've recently ditched milk altogether due to ongoing sinus/ear problems. Use soya or almond or coconut instead, acceptable enough in cereals, tolerable in coffee, drink tea black. |

fake vitamins processed and have delayed cancerous inducing qualities. They are just man made chemicals...not the genuine vitamins.
Think we can start to get watered down 'milk' banned lol. It's much cheaper to by 1/2 pint ad add the same amount of water too it...fresh spring water though! |

So is butter as recently disclosed after the industry has made millions but the gullible.
The more natural it is the healthier it is...the more processed the less healthy. Wake up people....no science needed. |

I use full fat milk and kerrygold butter. When the different types of milks and low fat spreads appeared in the supermarket in my teens,i couldnt adjust my taste to them. Ive never broken a bone in my life and ive a healthy cholesterol level
Full fat milk isnt " bad" fat. Its actually good for you and as another poster has said it can help weight loss, plus all the vitamins and minerals you need in full fat milk are present. Vitamins A ,D,E and K are needed to fight infection and to maintain a healthy bone density which arent present in low fats or skimmed milk as the cream is removed.
Everything in moderation is best i believe. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I agree, you can just about hear the argument; yeah but it has half the fat of normal milk. Sure does but you have to realise normal milk contains way less than 10% fat anyway....So I'd rather have 8% fat in my milk and have tasty cereal and coffee rather than destroying it with white water.. |

Delighted for you!! well done and keep going as youre going. Those low fat products have hidden sugars to improve an otherwise flat taste.Being active and eating normal is what works for me. ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I have a read theory...and it's unproven but is being studied and explored extensively, but it being hampered and blocked as one can imagine. ..but so many of our allergies are being caused and passed on because of processed food industries...substituting , changing, cutting out, replacing. I've not been any healthier as a result of low fat , low this that and the other. My health has improved and my wellbeing when reverting back to food that isn't played around with by added chemical substitutes. They will never be as good for you. Nature knows best I'm afraid to say. |

I don't tend to go for the new 'fads' as its always an underlying gain for some company who's goals are not to get you healthy but to keep their investors investment healthy.
So it's always been normal milk and normal butter in my house and it hasn't killed me yet. |

Skimmed milk is just regular milk minus most of the cream.
Skimmed milk has a slightly higher percentage of calcium than full fat.
It doesn't taste as good, because a lot of people are used to the creaminess that comes with full fat milk, but you soon get used to the difference once you introduce it to your routine.
There was a day when we NEEDED the fat from milk in order to give us the calories to operate out daily lives, but most people have more than enough fat in their diets and it's really not necessary any more for most adults. |

Ok I have read I think all or most of the posts and there are a lot of sence been said here. Full fat butter and milk and so on is good for you the same as beef or lamb or pork as it is totally natural. If you eat to much of any food it is not good for your health. The more prosseing food gets the more chemicals and nasty stuff that is put into it. |

Skimmed milk was actually introduced when they found it was simple and cheap to separate the cream to use for another product and was then sold as a way of reducing your fat intake.... reverse psychology as often done in the food industry. The reality as with most of these is in the west we eat 3x what our body actually needs......they don't publish that because they'd kill the industry. But if people reduce their volume it would cage their lifestyle, not to mention a healthier bank balance. ..proportionally more of our budget is spent on food now than ever before. |

While I agree with a lot of that sentiment.. It's not necessarily true. The process of separating cream from milk doesn't add any chemicals or nasty stuff to it. It's no more invasive than the pasteurisation and homogenisation that is done to all milk anyway.

No but separating milk from its fat content removes vital vitamins from the body like vitamin D which is needed to absorb calcium into the bloodstream ,nerves and bones. Unpasturized milk or "raw milk" can contain e coli, salmonella and listeria which is why Louis Pasteur invented the process of pasteurization to remove unwanted bacteria in milk. From his method of thermized milk,it became safe to drink and consume. |

Anyone who smokes is damaging their bone density in several different ways, and would do better ditching the habit than obsessing about calcium from dairy - the supposed benefits of which, and even our ability to digest milk in a beneficial way, are disputed by many researchers. |

Agreed Laid. Ruins food....just ruins it!
More calcium is also pointless unless you have vitamin D to use it.... So therefore skimmed is a pointless waste of money in Ireland |

When I'm abroad, I find most full fat milk is only on par with our skimmed, we're spoilt with the quality of milk, and it also effects the taste of dairy milk chocolate too, nothing touches a caburys dairy milk!!! |

People should watch the BBC documentary on Fat v Sugar it debunks alot of myths.
If you have to drink milk you prob should go full fat organic. I would be a big believer that most adults are lactose intolerant to some degree.
And has anyone noticed that since Cadburys was taken over a few years ago the taste has gone downhill I wonder is this due to the fact they use less real milk to keep maufacturing costs low. |

"If you have to drink milk you prob should go full fat organic"
Urgh don't even get me started on organic food. The number of people cheating is ridiculous. Unfortunately due to the nature of organic food there is no 'test' that can be done to prove it's truly organic. No such test can possibly exist because there is zero difference between organic and non organic food. |

Not only this but vitamins a d e and k are only fat soluble so fat lipids are required for the body to store them. |
