So it's day one off the cigs for me, so far so good! Have the vip ecig to stop me from climbing the walls, anyone have any good tips for quitting smoking? Also is anyone else quitting over the holidays/new year?

Ps sorry if anyone got their hopes up that I was outta here

I found sucking on a child's dummy, helped me a lot when I quit. Obviously I only ever used that tick at home.

Well done for taking your first step!

In my experience I found that the days dragged by very slowly. I went cold turkey and the first five days were hell. I decided on cold turkey because I wanted to be totally nicotine free. I'm halfway through my 7th week now and I feel great. Never used any other nicotine medium. No patches or gum or electronic vapes just sheer determination and a lot of support from my beautiful loving wife.

In fairness the first week I used a lot of wrigleys extra chewing gum. My appetite shot through the roof and I felt a lot healthier, slept better and had more energy.

Here's hoping you do really well in your quest to kick the cigs

Best of luck Lolli,I was off them for 2 years after getting hypnosis done. The best 280 euro i spent ever!!. I went back on them the night my mother died and although i only smoke when i have a drink now, ive not yet found the mindset and willpower to give up altogether.

Take each day as it comes xxx

This new years I'll be off them 8yrs.

Best thing I ever did.

Mind you I started when I was TWELVE old lol.

Quit tons of times because I knew I needed to.

I used the inhalers (not the new type the old horrible type lol)

I used the gum,

I used the sweets,

I used the patches.

But I Always ended up back on them.

The difference the last time was i wasn't giving up cause I knew I needed to or knew I had to. It was because I finally WANTED to.

I did it cold turkey and everytime a craving hit I wasn't reaching for something else. Id tell myself I'm doing this because I WANT to. Cravings usually went after a while aswell.

Dont get me wrong almost 8 years later my fingers still twiddle an imaginary smoke when I'm out in the smoking area with friends or something like that. But it's never a 'craving'

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

x

I did the same as Mr sugar. Cold turkey and cleaned the shop out of chewing gum. Unfortunately a few months later and a lot of budweisers I was back at them again. New year tho I hope to kick them again.

Aw thanks for the kind words guys and gals

I started smoking when I was about 12, gave up when I was 22/23 and stayed off them till about 2 years ago! Last time I quit it was cold turkey and just decided one day I didn't want to smoke any more and that was that!!

This time round I know what's ahead of me which is what's put me off quitting this long, but mind over matter!!! It's mad how much I'm thinking and talking about smoking just coz I know I can't today! But it's a habit and giving up today as won't be in my normal routine over the Xmas, so be easier it break the habit - I hope

Try lollipops. A friend used them whenever she had the cravings for one. Keeps hands and mouth busy which is what a lot of people find to be the hard part. I gave up between the ages of 21-23. Went back on them due to stress. Worse thing I ever did. Hoping to give up again in the new year.

This sounds silly but I started knitting, gives you something to do with your hands. But I quit ten years ago before smartphones were around I guess.

I had a self hypnosis book that I would read everytime I would normally stop for a cig. Sometimes I would also force myself to vomit cause I read somewhere that associating smoking with something really unpleasant will help you stop. It worked. It was 15 years ago.

Watch Alan Carrs Easyway to stop smoking. It's only about an hour long on YouTube, but its by far the most well known and successful method to help you quit

hope you got one that has a fair balance to the cigs you smoked it does get easier but i found it took about 305 days dont worry if you have a few cigs in between, its all about you not the cigs. You need to take your time with it , ddont push it. youll do fine and wihin a few days wont care about it

Only way to quit is by plain stuborness, tell yourself you dont smoke all the time and like they said above buy plenty of chewing gum and mints. I quit 4 years ago and never stopped craving , didnt feel better , in fact i got sore throats all the time for 2 years but it does get better and you get to a point where you dont want too even when ur craving. As long as you want to quit you will and best way is to just stop all together. Its not an easy task but many people have done it and if you want to you will too.

Yes I find sucking on a nice nipple helps me forget and relax as well
