I know a thread has already been posted on the subject but I really don't think this issue can be talked about enough. My thoughts and deep sentiments go out to the people of Paris for what any civilised human being would agree was a cowardly and heinous act.. We all need to stand United against the threat of world terror...

what happened in Paris was terrible and I agree with everything you say,but this kind of thing is happening everyday somewhere in the world. why is it only when it happens close to home that people sit up and take notice. only about two weeks ago a plane bound for Russia was blown out of the sky by a bomb on board,As far as I know over two hundred people lost their lives in that explosion, many of them children. where was the outcry for these innocent people. Certainly not in Ireland....

The true humanity of this world need to stand United. On my way home today I heard 3 French people speaking in the train station. I walked up to them and told them how terrible I felt for the people of France.. It brought a tear to one of them.. Speak out against those who want to destroy our way of life..

I agree with you, totally.. I'm not trying to make excuses, just trying to understand. The Russian airliner that was bombed, it wasn't known right away whether it was a terrorist act or not. Its a terrible state of our society that very often people respond to what happens to any given news story right away. Because the act that took place in Paris was brazen and in our faces everyone reacted straight away.. I wonder how long it will take before everyone has forgotten about this heinous act.. Maybe when the next big news story comes along.. It is shameful..

You've answered your own question there. People take notice BECAUSE it's close to home. Compared to Iraq, Syria etc Paris is in our back garden. I know people - family included - who regularly go on day trips to France for work, or go for a short weekend break. What if they had been there on Friday? I can't even imagine how I'd feel. But I know nobody who's even been to Iraq, let alone goes there regularly.

A hurricane is a lot scarier when it's ten miles away than when it's 100 miles away.
