Good call on Dillinger. their EP with Mike Patton is amongst my faves.
Right so, time for my 2c. AC/DC arent metal...they're rock so lets discount them from the list straight away. So what for me is the epitome of metal? here's some songs I go to when I want to hear actual heavy stuff:
Opeth : Deliverance
Pantera: 5 minutes alone
Strapping Young Lad: Detox
Entombed: Damn Deal Done
Iron Maiden: Run To The Hills
Testament: Low
Killswitch Engage: The End Of Heartache
Machine Head: Davidian
Megadeth: Holy Wars
Metallica: Master Of Puppets/Sad But True
Meshuggah: Future Breed Machine
Honourable mentions (cos they're kind of metal but not realy)
Faith No More: The gentle are of making enemies.
RATM: Killing in the name
Porcupine Tree: Blackest Eyes

Yes, but I'm still right.
Also, Guns'N'Roses arent metal. They're a straight up hard rock band. like AC/DC |

Ah the metallica debate. as old as time itself.
Shite? Let's look at this objectively.
Are they shite now? Probably.
Were they shite in the 80's? No.
Were they shite in the 90's? Up for debate. I actually think Load/Reload would be a decent ROCK album if they put the best songs from each onto a single album. Garage Inc. is decent too, but thats all covers.
Is Lars a shite drummer? Oh god yes. he cant even hide it anymore.
Is james hetfield one of the finest metal guitarists of all time? Oh hell yes.
Was Cliff Burton amazing? yes he was.
So I think it balances out really.....

When it comes to music for me anything goes. Except Bon Jovi. Went to a meet back on n the day and the lady in question thought "hey, M likes metal. I'll play Bon Jovi". How well she didn't and still doesn't know me.
And for the bad joke tread?
How do you get Jon Bon Jovi to run into a burning building?
Tell him a hair dresser is inside. |
