I'm going down a different route here when you talk about "bands".... there are 2 pipe bands from Irhe eland who are 2 out of the top 6 bands in the world
First is the Field Marshall Montgomery pipe band from Lisburn/Belfast who are the most successful pipe band to ever come from Ireland having won the world pipe band championships on 9 occassions and from Dublin St.Laurence O'Toole pipe band, again former world pipe band and presently world drum corps champions |

Really thought Aslan would've made it big back in the day.
but I would imagine re sales U2 and Westlife are out on their own?
Personally I love the cranberries and snow patrol |

"Got to be U2 or is it what's your opinion maybe thin lizzy "
Most successful? Definitely U2.
Best? They wouldn't feature in an Irish Top Ten...
My money's on Thin Lizzy, followed closely by the Undertones, with Ash, SLF, |

The Understones for me...worked with them at events and they are fantastic. I like The Script too.......Amongst any student in Ireland in the last ten years they will also talk of a band called The Rapparees....used to see them regularly at student events we done and also in The Bot in Belfast.. |

"The High Kings - the are an Ace band!!! " great shows they put on.
My fav band is cry before dawn. There was some great bands doing the rounds in the 80s 90s. In tua nua, the stunning, the four of us, hothouse flowers, moving hearts, something happens to name but a few. |

"Thin Lizzy over U2 for sure!"
Saw Philo and the boys in City Hall Cork in 1980, Snowy White had just joined the band from Pink Floyd - still the best live gig I ever saw. Live and Dangerous the best live album ever recorded by an Irish band - maybe any band |

"Allegedly Jimi Hendrix was once asked "What does it feel like to be the best guitarist in the world," and he replied "I don't know, go ask Rory Gallagher."
Urban myth - wish it wasn't"
I know, but it could be true |
