Slippery When Wetville

Hi folks, just a general info seeking thread. I was wondering if any of you good folk might be privy to 'insider' protocol on early (morning) check ins for a hotel room (yes for a day of R n R )

Is there a special way of requesting a room with out saying " I want to check in @ 9am ride all day n check out at Clocking off time!" Most check ins are after 2 or 3 in the afternoon (which is generally school-run time!).

I know it's like the beauticians and bikini waxes they see this stuff everyday but there must be a discreet way of getting round it..

I've been lucky so far, my meets usually have the hotel organised or I'm on an overnight, but it's a question that has surfaced once or twice lately for me and uncommonly I'm at a lose for an answer

Love to hear your recommendations & experiences with hotels early morning check in..

that seems to be the way to go. Suppose when you don't normally use hotels for business purposes and only use them for boldness, you book it thinking "they soooo know what I'm at " lol

Not sure where abouts you are looking. It's very common with Airport hotels so if you are near a airport try there. Just phone and ask for their Day Rate

I've used Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express before after over night flights.

I work in the industry, so just ask for day-use or day-let rate. A reservations agent should help you with that without too many questions asked.

Plenty of legitimate non-suspicious reasons for wanting a day-room.

Great reply!

All hoteliers know that a significant part of their business is of the nudge, nudge, wink, wink variety.

I don't think many of them are going to look skeptically at customers turning up for a bit of slap and tickle.

Hotels have seen every sin imaginable and coped with it. Hotels, at least successful ones, are very discreet. Part of this is for security, of course, but it is also to enable their customers to carry on discreet business, whether commercial or amatory.

They also aim to help the expense account guest to spend more. Thus the Beirut hotel prasied by PJ O'Rourke because, "They'll always show your bar bills as laundry." For the same reason many hotels began to show mini-bar charges as "room service".

Hoteliers are much more discreet and broad-minded than some give them credit for. They are in business to stay in business and make money.

When you book online, there's an special requests box, put in your request there then phone them later that day to check it's feasible to do it!! Worth a shot anyway!! Good luck!!

I always use the day rate in hotels. Just ring ahead. Ask for a room. I normally stay 10.30am to 4pm. Its wonderful to have company for a few hours of R & R.

Ahh - you don't need to give any "excuse". Just book over the phone - say you need to check in at 9am and will be gone by 5.

People take rooms for the day for many reasons - just arrived in country and need a sleep before driving or need it for interviewing purposes ( ok maybe the last one is dodgy)

The real give away is when you say you want to pay cash

Malahide

I rang around a few hotels today in the Dublin area near the airport looking for day rates and none of them could accommodate me. All said if I rang the morning I needed the room they sold advise if they had early check outs they would allow check in early but I'd have to pay the full overnight rate. €95 to €115 on average which is a bit steep considering they would get the room back by 5 pm

There is a site called dayrates.ie but the prices were the same

Yep, found that myself.

Ringing around to get somewhere last minute is sooooo frustrating and kills the feeling for me.

Works best to book online at a good rate before and pay tenner extra for late check out

i work in a hotel. all you do is ring up tell them what hours you want the Room for. as for payment . they will charge the same as over night room only. as room still has to be cleaned afterwards. no questions asked just enjoy yourselfs

You have two options:

You can say your flight arrives in early from overseas and hope for a complimentary early check in .. this will most likely work midweek ... Monday to Thursday..

Or you can ask to pay extra for an early check in. This way the hotel will add what is called a "day let" to your regular room reservation. the room will basically kept free from the previous night, allowing you to check in any time in the morning.

Both options usually only work if the hotel is not fully booked... so, the sooner you organise it the better. It will be most difficult on weekends ..

I hope this helps
