Which is better? Paying doctor 60 quid for a script for diafene or spending 30 quid on a few pints to help you sleep of a pulled muscle in your back?

Go to the chemist. They'll be able to give you something to ease the pain. If that doesn't work you'll probably be glad to pay when the pain is bad enough. Hope it doesn't come to that though.

Oh god go to the dr - I've had spasms in my back before and they're excruciating. The only thing that worked was oxycodol (which sent me loopy lala but the relief from the pain was bliss).

If you don't have someone to put the cold compress on it then try laying on a hot water bottle, I find heat great for back pain

Cheers everyone for advice, I've suffered from bad spasms before and needed some good shit to sort it out thankfully it's not crippling pain this time but might need anti inflammatories! Hopefully won't come to that

My tuppence worth is the doctor, esp if you've had spasms in the past. With luck they will give you an injection that kicks in nearly immediately plus a script for some tablets as well. But if you go for the drinks, you might have to spend that each night until it eases off, which could be €420 or more (I mean a couple of weeks or more)

For the first 2 days after injury apply cold compress. Frozen peas wrapped in a tea towel. From the third day on move to heat compress. The cold shrinks the arteries to help minimize swelling. Then the heat expands them to promote good flow of blood to help recovery.

Best core exercise known to mankind is planking.

Another trick is Magnesium. TruMag. Its a muscle rexalant. Helps your muscles relax after work out or overstretching. €23 or so. Lasts a while also.

never meant to imply you were lol, just thought it was worse than something you can hopefully 'work off' (but here's hoping you're right). Personally the odd time I've managed to do it I can barely move for a couple of days and I'm downing the tabs as soon as I can for a couple of weeks: just as well I'm a non drinker, or I could well be the alcoholic you're not
