Mobile carrier 3 blocking fabs..
Jump to: Newest in thread
This morning I noticed that my phone is now blocking me accessing fab.
I did a little look around and saw that they have decided to block all adult content sites.. You have to go in to them to prove you're over 18 with passport etc..
Don't really fancy having to do that..

I didn't have to prove I was over 18, maybe it's a new rule? I did however have to ring them and ask them to unblock and from what I remember give them my visa debit card number, no charges were made and I can't remember their reason why now! But was unblocked straight away then |

"Lolli I'm with them years, this is just new.
My account isn't in my name, have to get hubby to go in and prove he is over 18!"
Oh so just started happening? That's a pain in the ass! It's not their business to police what internet sites people use and make sure they are over 18? I wonder why they do it? |

I had the same prob with vodafone. No matter how many times I told them to unblock everything they never did. I give and don't use them anymore. It was ridiculous. Vodafone telling me what I can and can't view on the internet? As if! FU!
I don't use the cell network to access the internet. It's shite and a ripp off and just plain nazi with it's filters. |

Try using the PUFFIN browser (download from the app store). This sends the fabs data to their servers first and then to your phone. Meaning 3 sees the data as coming from a non-adult source.
Certainly works for me in places like Starbucks that ban fabs on their free wifi. |

I use privateinternetaccess dot com.
It has apps for your pc, tablet, Android and ipad/iPhone.
It's very cheap and creates a secure vpn so no blocking is possible.
It also means you can access anything secretly so starbucks/mcdonalds/hotel/mobile carrier can't see what your looking at or steal your userids and passwords. |

I'm wi Three myself, and just recently had this sorted out.
You don't have to go into a shop to do it, you can just pop them an email saying you wish to have the internet filter removed, with a copy of an ID attached. They mailed me back a couple days later, asking me to call them to confirm, and that was it.
The filter is only on prepay-plans I think, and they say "it's to protect the children". |

I had to do the same with Vodafone a couple of years ago...
Had to bring photo ID to prove I'm over 18 (haha)
Done with the click of a button though, you don't have to show them any sites, just that you've been 'restricted' |

You use tor for that. Free, simple and you can surf the hidden web as well. I'm using it now. Pretty much for everything in this day and age of web tracking everything people do.
To install tor on a fone I think you need 2 apps, one for the tor browser and the other is the networking part of it.
On a pc or lappy you only need the tor browser download. |

"It may be a pain for those of us that ARE over 18 but it's a good move for child protection.
I agree Nikki, it's only a small inconvenience."
Yes its no harm to have this in use for u18 but when u sign up to a contract u have to produce two forms of I'd which the provider has on record why don't they check their records |

I asked that CJ & they said so if parents get bill pay phones for their kids, the kids wouldn't be able to do it over the phone. |

"Does that private access thing hide your ip address??? "
Yes. It's gives you a new ip which changes all the time, and is virtually untraceable as no logs are kept. They have no idea who is using which ip so it can't be traced back to you.
I tried tor, and it's good, but I found it way too slow. I'd rather pay a small amount and get a very fast system. |

True tor is a little slower and then if you have encryption on top of that like https everywhere even more so, but most people tend not to use slow sites so the difference is not all that much in my opinion. I guess it would depend on your connection as well. |

Just a thought here but maybe most of you are on PRE-PAY - where no Age verification is required ?
I am Bill pay - so they can't contest my age as I pay by Direct Debit |

Not to use the phone.
Most providers may want a credit card for the bill payer but their 12 year old child may actually have the phone. |

I didn't when it happened to me, just ring them and as them to take off the over 18's block, no need to mention a site. You might however have to do it a few times though as I think I got stuck 3 times |

I use google and don't have to put a password in |

If you can't bypass just ring them and say your gay and trying too access gay social sites that's what I did and they had me unblocked in 24hrs after sending them a copy of my Id that was 3 year ago and no issue since basically your asking for full internet access |
