So I'd like to tone up and get fit.
I don't need help losing weight, I can do that pretty quickly and easily.
However I would love some tips from all you fitness fanatics. Not into getting muscles, just want to firm up a bit.
Thanks in advance |

When you get home golden tanned. Lucky you. Just walk the prom-at least 3m-four times a week at a reasonably fast pace. That's it. Nothing else required. |

Les Mills body pump is great for toning and conditioning. If your local gym doesn't run Les Mills classes they probably have something similar, body sculpt or suchlike. It won't give you big muscles, it's low weights, high reps. |

I disagree. You won't build lean muscle or gain bone strength from a non weight bearing exercise.
"
Lol some classes use weights and the water resistance to build up the muscle. And it's toning she's looking not muscle |

I'm not sure how you can tone up without working and building the muscle
I just consider that exercise more for older or convalescents or people with joint problems. It would do very little for me and since the OP and me are more or less the same age I thought I'd give my opinion.

If at all possible try and do all of the above because if you stick to just one you will get bored out of your tree pretty quickly and that's the reason 99% of people give up.
I love cycling but I live out in the country side so the scenery helps. I can't swim so that's out the window, kettle bell classes are fantastic as an all over body workout if the instructor is decent.
Again just mix it up and keep it fun |

Getting toned without gaining muscle mass is all about the number of reps and size of the weight.
So use light weights and do 3 sets of 20 reps, rather than 10 reps of heavier weights. |

I would say riding a bicycle for 15-30 minutes a day will make a huge difference and is the easiest and simplest way to get fit.
Saw a doco on the bbc not long ago made by some doctor or professor and it was about the best way to exercise and keep fit. Had him hooked up to machines and talking blood tests and that.
Anyway they were testing this new method which involved nothing more than an exercise bike and pedalling as fast as you can for something like 30 or 60 seconds, then resting for no more than 90 secs and repeat it 3 times. The results were amazing. The had all the experts and everything. Had some interesting info and medical tests on the power of beetroot juices too. The were not sure why it was so good for you but the results spoke for themselves. |

"If your diet isnt right then exercise is fucking pointless"
True. Try to avoid sugar at all costs and processed foods. If it comes in a box it more than likely is really bad for you. Leading to cook your on food is a good way to control your diet. |

Complement a combination of all the previous good advice with a few limitations in the kitchen. Take a break from bread, sugar etc kick your morning off with a grapfruit. And if you are stuck for time, space, and money - buy a skipping rope - you can't go wrong with one of those |

Yes! Skipping is great, get a proper skipping rope for a tenner (I have one with weights in the handles) and there are lots of workouts to follow on youtube. |

Then I do the bike. 90 seconds mental and then 3 minutes relaxed. Repeat 5 times. Another one I'm at right now is Russian twists. Doing some job on my stomach/back muscles. |

There's a lot of confusion as to what toned means and how to get toned. For me toned relates to body fat %, say 10% for a man or 17% for a woman. Best way to achieve this is resistance training of large leg muscle groups with weights ( squats & lunges) combined with HIIT High Intensity Interval Training cardio, such as sprints. |

I cycle and interval train on the bike and kettle bell to work on my fitness and to keep the belly fat away.
Do something fun that you enjoy as it makes it easier. I know someone on the focus t20 plan and they have had fantastic results so might be worth a look for you. |

You don't want to lose weight, and don't want to gain muscle, but want to tone up??
Toning up IS gaining muscle, If you want a shape, then that's muscle definition.
You need to lift weights. Every single role model you can think of with a great shape does it. Cardio will eat muscle away (unless you supplement with BCAAs) and make you shapeless so avoid that.
And before someone pipes in saying "I don't want to lift weights and get bulking", get a reality check! Girls lifting become toned and in shape, bulky girls are purposely raising their testosterone levels to break their natural blueprint, which doesn't happen with a bit of light weights work.
Please take this advice as gospel, it's coming from a competitive bikini/figure model, so I've been there and do that. |

Tabata is good if you don't have much time.
Tabata is for example on a bike. You cycle as hard as you can for 20 seconds, then rest for 10 doing nothing, then race for 20 seconds as hard as you can, then rest.
Just 4 minutes of that, sprint, stop, sprint, stop has been proven to boost your fitness a lot. |
