Actually, I think football should mirror hurling, fuck a load of the 'weaker' teams into a B championship.

-

The downside to this, they will never get better by competing against the better teams. But does Longford gain anything by losing to Dublin by 20 points year on year anyway?

Based on results to date:

Leitrim

NY

Carlow

Offaly

Longford

Waterford

Clare

Antrim

Seeya later lads best of luck in the B Championship.

Poor Leitrim

They can't compete though. There's too much sly professionalism in my opinion, and it's leading to a huge number of joint injuries as well as unbalancing the championship. I don't know how you can make the weaker counties more competitive either, and the list above could easily be doubled in size.

the only way I can think of making the weaker teams stronger is to have a transfer system like in soccer...There is lots of very good players that don't get a chance to play at the top level because their from the stronger counties and just can't get in their county team. I am sure some of them guys would love the chance to play county football or hurling

Based on the fact that if Donegal beat Derry that are at the same stage of the championship as Cork and Kerry following their marauding Munster campaigns.

They can play for some of the weaker counties under the parentage rule. Leitrim had three or four players like that back in the nineties. The other problem, which is part of the strength of the GAA, is the fierce county loyalty that exists. Nobody really wants to see outsiders playing for their county.

Men's Gaa should follow the the example of the Ladies Gaa

3 tiers

Senior championship

Intermediate Championship

Junior Championship

Its a fair way of doing it and gives some counties a hope of silverware come september...

There's already a junior championship. Nobody really cares about it though, apart from the teams who are going well in it.

your right about the loyalty thing....even within a county most people only play for there local club.... with their "up the parish" attatude...which is a great way for people in communities to bond

Nobody wants to be downgraded to it. Do away with the qualifiers as they are now and make the championship a knockout competition again. Them were the days!

Drop the see the stars of tomorrow league crap. Make it 6 x 6 groups with seeded top 2 teams. The top 2 from each go into knockout stages to the final. Weaker teams get more chances and the Dubs have to travel. Then watch the boys in corker cry !

...also watch the ordinary fans cry when they see the increase in ticket prices for the final since the stadium is no longer being paid for by the Dubs fans. The Leinster council decides where the Leinster championship games are played. There are two delegates from each county there so it's quite obvious that the majority of the Leinster council want maximum attendance at the games, hence the Dubs playing in Croke Park.

You can certainly say it about Kerry. After that it's hard to know, but definitely not Mayo anyway. Promised so much but delivered so little apart from nice football to watch. You could add Tyrone and Meath to the list if multiple All Ireland wins is the thing? Mind you, Wexford were the first team to win three in a row and where are they now.

The sentence is contradictory at best anyway. If a team has one amazing day, they could overturn a team and be "the best team in the country" if Tipp could have maintained their start against Kerry - 4 points up within 5 mins - they could have been labelled the best team in the country, on that day

Jimmy McGuinness has laid out the blueprint for the future of inter-county football...croke park and congress needs the balls to go and implement it..an A championship based on league performance and provincial champions and B championship picks up the rest but with both finals getting equal billing in September

I couldn't agree with that. Winning one game wouldn't make anyone the best team in the country in my estimation. Some consistency is required for that.

Remind me again what Donegal won last year? Donegal have won one all Ireland title in the last four years having played in two, Kerry also have one and Dublin have two. I also suspect that if you ask the neutrals which team they'd prefer to watch playing that Donegal might not be top of the last

"On their day Donegal is the best team in Ireland!

Sure you can say that about dublin kerry mayo and maybe cork

I couldn't agree with that. Winning one game wouldn't make anyone the best team in the country in my estimation. Some consistency is required for that. ok I'll rephrase it.... This year and the past 4 years Donegal is the best team in Ireland!

Your wrong ... "

Remind me again what Donegal won last year? Donegal have won one all Ireland title in the last four years having played in two, Kerry also have one and Dublin have two. I also suspect that if you ask the neutrals which team they'd prefer to watch playing that Donegal might not be top of the last "

as a neutral I will say Donegal actually are my favourite team to watch and In Michael Murphy they have the best footballer in Ireland

I was speaking entirely o a daily basis. I meant "on their day" any team could be called the best team in the country based on one singular performance. The phrase was too vague and completely false.

Donegal have no answer once they go behind. They can't function when they throw off the blanket.

-

I like watching free flowing football, leaving all allegiances aside - my favourite teams to watch are dublin, kerry, cork, kildare. Can't handle watching ulster championship games.

Donegal have some great footballers such as Murphy, McBrearty and the McHughs for starters. It's their adherence to a defensive system through the McGuinness years that was often horrendous to watch. To be fair to McGuinness though, it's only about results but apart from a couple of games it was drab to watch.

"On their day Donegal is the best team in Ireland!

On their day ?? By far the best team in the country any day, prob one of the most under funded counties at that too some difference between Mac Cumhaill Park and Croke Park lol

Best team in the country any day? Er, hello, I don't think so, then again it depends on how you measure success I suppose. "

Yea any day... Well how do you measure success ?In my opinion a county as underfunded, underdeveloped and sparsely populated as Donegal coming through the hardest provincial football in the country and beating teams like Kerry and Dublin that are leaps and bounds above money wise, facility wise population wise and winning Sam despite all of that staying Ulster champions year after year now that's success with a team off players all neatly under 25 if that's not success I don't know what is...Dublin for instance the amount of money pumped into it is unreal 6.5 million for a gaa pitch that's what Donegal get in the space of 10 years just goes to show money can't buy everything talent is talent and it's just natural

There's lots of counties would love the amount of success that Donegal have had indeed. That doesn't make them the best team in the country though. As for funding, having lots of money helps but it's no guarantee of anything. Cork county board traditionally had the biggest income of any county yet it's a while since they won anything. Dublin county board has a fantastic sponsorship deal indeed, but they have a lot of clubs to spend it on and the whole parish mentality that is the strength of rural counties is not there in the same way in Dublin. Anyway, if you're saying that Donegal are the best team in the country for the last four years, you'd want to be showing me more than one Sam Maguire.

Having no competition is a disadvantage, not an advantage

The game has evolved into a game that's utterly shite to watch for the most part and attendances are dropping, hence Jarlath committee to come up with ideas to save it.

On the defensive thing, Donegal didn't change the game with that. I think Tyrone might have something to say about that. Also, not every team is playing it. Dublin won twice as many titles as Donegal during the last four years playing fast moving open football.

You can claim to be the best team playing on sheep pastures if you like but you can't claim to be the best team in the country with less titles than other teams.

Not really a disadvantage your getting game time and the time for more training... And as I said politics plays a big part in the GAA when Dublin were playing Donegal people were either in Dublin England or Scotland working playing for the county would of been last on the priority list now that's what I mean by politics highly funded county v low funded county money doesn't buy everything but having the right tools for the job and having the right friends in the right place is a big advantage

And as I said politics plays a big part in the GAA when Dublin were playing Donegal people were either in Dublin England or Scotland working playing for the county would of been last on the priority list now that's what I mean by politics highly funded county v low funded county money doesn't buy everything but having the right tools for the job and having the right friends in the right place is a big advantage "

Have you ever been to GAA Congress? Democracy. I'm not going to argue with you. Tyrone won more All Ireland titles than Donegal playing defensively. It's useful for teams with less talented players as it levels the playing field as you put it. As for teams training harder etc, that's not much of a gig thing when a lot of the skills are disappearing and lads are having hips replaced in their twenties. Anyway, enjoy your defensive game of tactics. The only tactic I enjoy is out scoring the opposition. Tá mé críochnaithe anois. Slán go fóill.

I can bet there is as many clubs here as Dublin I've played on pitches where they kept sheep ffs lol the big southern counties get the the helping hand big time simple... Yea I'll give you that, one Sam but always there about a but we have changed the game we started with the blanket defense now every county in Ireland is at it, gaelic has evolved into a more tactical sport for the better not great to watch when it started 4 or 5 years ago but as teams are grasping it the game is a better watch, younger managers starting to bring fresh ideas that would off been laughed at 5 or 6 years ago all because off Donegal the way we played now that's success .. Na if the provincials were tighter down south then national level would be rateable but it's a walk through for teams like Dublin Kerry Cork Mayo no competition at all...

Do you not think it would be a bit boring if every team played the same way. Make s it more exciting to watch teams try to out think each other and better still if they beat the dubs

"On their day Donegal is the best team in Ireland!

Sure you can say that about dublin kerry mayo and maybe cork

I couldn't agree with that. Winning one game wouldn't make anyone the best team in the country in my estimation. Some consistency is required for that. ok I'll rephrase it.... This year and the past 4 years Donegal is the best team in Ireland!

And you only win the all ireland once invites time frame, come on mayo hanmered ye by nearly twenty points in 2013, deluded "

ok dear lord

Lol your some eejit a Kerryman shouting for Dublin. Kilkenny are every bit as under funded as Donegal I'd say and since the have no football team and only concentrate on hurling that's why then win pure talent, your right they have it just imagine if they had the money Dublin GAA has they would be unbeatable... All those things about Dublin are true tho that's the difference politics plays a big part simple !! If every county had the advantages of Dublin Kerry and the likes it woukd be a far better sport. Your another deluded Dub like the other boy there talent lol don't make me laugh... What actual talent is in the Dublin team Mc Cauley, Claxton and Connolly catch a grip man...
