definitely a lifestyle for me. iv been at it 10 years 4 of those spent in the uk as part of a cpl.
lots of people use swinging as an easy way to get the leg over etc. but I think the building of friendships with groups of people you play with is the life blood of swinging. |

It's a fad. Most couple I know have either left swinging behind them or have separated.
For most singles, it's just a bit of fun and a chance to explore fantasies.
I've been doing this for over 10 years, on and off, but mostly off.
I'm beginning to get bored again. |

I think for us it's somewhere between lifestyle and hobby it's something a bit more permanent that a hobby but I don't think it's so much part of our lifestyle that we would put it before our relationship or let it compromise our marriage. |

Swinging is a lifestyle, its a polyamory life style. You want to have sex with multiple people.
Swinging brings order to that lifestyle type. You can be with multiple people while still building a life with someone.
Being promiscuous is when you jump from one bed to the next. It's not polyamory, and it occurs for different reasons (self esteem, wanting to be wanted). Of course polyamorous people can be promiscuous too, but thats a different line of thought. |

I think that polyamory is when you develop deeper feelings for more than one person at a time. And swinging (hate that word)/lifestyle is when you are happy to engage sexually with more than one person at a time. I very much like that lifestyle. |

It's polygamy where you develop deeper relations. Polygamists love multiple people and marry them etc.
Polyamory is sharing intimate relations with more than one. You don't have to love them, just make love to them.
People are not black and white, you can have a polyamorous male who does not like his females to sleep around and gets jealous etc. Lots of dynamics at play and never black and white, but yeah. |

I know some words with Greek and Latin origin are a tough one to get the head around...but why use them when not certain?
So just for the record:
The prefix poly means many
Gámos means marriage
Polygamy is when someone is married to more than one person (2+) at the same time, love might or might not be involved
Amor is the roman god of love, thus amourus love, loving
Polyamory is when one loves 2 or more people in an open intimate relationship, hence with the knowledge and consent of everyone involved, sex is not necessarily a primary focus in such a relationship |
