Noisey neighbours

So my neighbours came home an hour ago, music thumping and screaming and singing, tried knocking on their door but the music is too loud and they can't hear me. Any advice? That's legal? Coz right now I wanna chop them all up into little pieces

under the EPA act of 1992 an individual can complain any noise which is so loud and continuous that it is considered a nuisance to the environmental department of your local authority. It is up to them to investigate and take said matter further

Well that's the legal side, basically you can get them for noise pollution

I swear to god I'm fuming, they woke me coming in at 3, I ignored it, they were all fighting and shouting till 330, I ignored it, then at 4 they decided to bring Ibiza to mullingar, that's enough! The walls here are paper thin, I can hear every word they are saying. I knocked in twice and they can't hear me knocking on the door. Agghhhhh I hate other people, I seriously need to go live in an nursing home

I'm only so annoyed coz I'm recovering from my op and have come off my pain meds coz of the side effects so now laying here annoyed and in pain, it was hard enough to fall asleep in the first place

In my last place when I rang the guards once (coz they were letting off fire extinguishers over the balcony and they were so out of their heads two were trying to jump off) the guards said nothing they can do on private property

Not sure if they are renters or owners. I rang my landlord recently to get esb readings and she told me there wasn't a man co, just a caretaker guy, so I rang him and he's an old man, I'm a month ringing him chasing the readings

It's nothing to do with the guards, the guards might try and have a friendly word but it's nothing to do with them at all.

Ireland is pretty bad for this kind of thing, you can torture neighbors for years before you legally have to stop.

I'm lucky. I don't sleep much so if people start the 3am music game with me, I start the 24 hours a day music with the speakers leaning against the wall game with them.

I dont mind sleeping with earplugs either.

None of that helps you.

I had ear plugs in until they started the music and the ear plugs don't block the base of the music. Just annoyed coz I'm in pain is all. Even if they stopped the music now I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep anyway

No I'm afraid guards can do nothing they can asked them to keep the noise down but that's it

The only thing you can do really is have a word with them later today and explain how bad things where and hopefully they are reasonably people and will cop on

I will call in later coz its most wkends they wake me but this is the first they have played music. Lucky in a way I'm off coz of the op coz I usually work Saturdays so least soon as the music stops I can try and sleep. Have that horrible sick feeling from not sleeping now though and am wide awake watching TV so not sure I'll be able to fall back asleep now!

Do exactly the same to them about 1 hr after they fall asleep this morning.....

Or...

Call in and tell them about your operation and ask them to please not come in at 3am and turn the place into a disco... you will see from their reaction to this wether they give a shit or not....

I just turned off my TV and thought the music had stopped but they must have been changing cd, it's back on. I'm wide awake myself! fair play to you for doing it. Everyone that passed by down here was yapping away and seemed to be having a great time!

that was a nice touch! I just rang the guards to see if they could have done anything and they said no as its a private residence. They said to get on to the dept of something or other, think the environment about noise pollution. Might give it a Google as I'm certainly not going to be sleeping any time soon!

I just don't see what odds the dept of environment can do at this hour at the wkend? They can issue warnings etc but what good will that do? Like if I was them and got a warning I'd blare it louder!

Yep she said she was sorry but as its private property there's nothing they can do, I'm now awake since 330, my eyes are burning with tiredness

I've gotten on to the man co and they emailed me back (already) and said they will get on to the landlord later so will see if that stops it going forward, if not I'll look into the dept of environment. Currently googling industrial strength ear plugs

get noise cancelling head phones the plugs aren't good for you and can cause damage with prolonged use

Lol a single loner like myself. Bliss!!! There is loads of old people in this apartment block, it's great! I moved down here for peace and quiet. If I got noisey neighbours I would actually move again, I hate not sleeping. And it drives me mad when people say "ignore the noise" if it wakes me up and keeps me awake, how do you ignore it?

Think I'll look at head sets rather then ear plugs coz the plugs keep falling out anyway

Take a look at the residential tenancies board register. If it's registered that will give you details of the landlord. Contact him.

Otherwise you can issue proceedings in the district court seeking a noise abatement order. You go in on the court date and tell the judge your story. Once you get an order if they start making noise after a certain hour the guards have power to arrest on foot of the order

The district court office will help you with the forms

My town

I had a problem with a neighbour with kids. kids are kids fight argue one min skipping and playing the next.

But this mother has it in for my daughter, my girl can't do anything on the street without the mother running her down turning kids against her saying stuff to her.

Last week my girl came in crying uncontrollably.

This mother told her she has pictures and videos of my daughter of her playing her next step was bringing them to the gardai for what I dont know playing.

I rang the guards as I Thought taking pictures of videos of a minor was against the law.

The guards cams up I explained the situation and was told she can take pictures it's not against the law.

But would go up and ask for both children to keep away from each other. But it was just a friendly call ....

I told him the reason I did of go up is I would of pulled her hair out to which the guard replied you be in trouble.

maybe the can call up if you explain lolli but getting them to stop they probably Is down to the landlords or letting agency.

Is the a residents committee you can go to ?

From your posts this seems to be a regular wkend occurance...which I presume they're not going to suddenly stop... each wkend camp out in the spare room..

You should find out who owns that apartment.. contact them n get a repore going... get on his/her good side... then ask them to put someone old n quirt in there

Omg, I it's the worst. I think I'm allergic to noise so I absolutely go mental if neighbours are loud. I believe I have posted about his here as well a few years ago.

I have looked into it myself and yes, the guards can't do anything. But they CAN have a word with them, which often works (unless you live next to the most obnoxious, anti-social people).

I think it really depends who you speak to at the Garda station. What I've done before is to call my local station directly and they explained the law to me but also that it's a quiet night and they will have a word with them. I convinced them by saying that I live alone and feel frightened because there are people right outside my door/window etc.

Another time, when I called, the garda said that they're already aware of it as several neighbours called in and that someone is on the way.

But generally, having a word yourself is the best way. If I had been you, I would have knocked so fucking hard on that door until they finally opened it.

Making a complaint to the City Council is more about repeated noise. They won't do anything about once off occurences.

I think their landlord will hear about it today and hopefully will have a word with them to keep it quiet until they leave. But to be sure I would have a word with them later because they may think they have a free pass until they move out.

Best of luck to you. I really know how you're feeling. It's the worst.

Ps. As I'm a light sleeper I use sleep headband earphones and mainly listen to white noise. This really helps and is much better than ear plugs.

a few years back one of my neighbors played you "you raise me up "by Westlife full blast for three and a half hours over and over and over again .

each time it played i got a little angrier untimely 3 and a half hours later there was steam coming out my ears

So over i went and knocked on the door but she would not answer me so in pure temper i shouted in the letter box if she did not turn the song off id pull her out the letter box by her head .

after another hour she turned it off

a lot of people where talking about what had happened and saying they now hate Westlife

latter that night i went out to meet friends for a few drinks .

so i called into my local ordered my drink and sat down there was maybe a dozen or so people there

after a few minuets i hear the first few strands of you raise me up

my head pops up and there is all the people in the bar with lighters in hand waving in the air starting to sing the song and laughing in between

thats the kind of town i live in

i still hate Westlife though

I have a neighbour similar who thought to party every Thursday night til 4 or 5 in the morning and ignored my complaints. It was very odd that she had 2 flat tyres one Friday morning

She now works nights on a weekend when tiesto and faithless visit my place

insomnia being played rather loudly! If it continues, I agree with others party on girl

Every evening I'd hear him running up the stairs, opening the door and talking to her. He was very noisy when he came as well. It was erotic for the first few weeks, then it became amusing, but eventually it just got annoying. How he had so much energy I don't know?

A number of years ago Kaizers foreign neighbours went through a phase of non stop partying. One night yours truly was roused, circa 3am, with what only can be described as a Eurovision Song contest going on. We had Poland, Lithuania and Slovakia all vying for the title.

Anywho the quality was that good the Gardai were not called. The following day a phone call was made to the Landlord, he was very apologetic, called to his tenants and threatened eviction. There were no more parties or Eurovisions.

One weekend last summer our neighbours decided it was a good idea to hold what could only be described as a nightclub in their back garden. Mr went in at 4am and threatened the cops on them. They quickly stopped. Amazingly people don't know that the cops won't do anything about it.

While there in there dyin u should blare ur music now and take out a pot and a spoon and keep banging it at the door wen they open say this is what I was listening all night do it again next time I'll ram the spoon down ur neck they guards won't do fuck all for stuff like that

a few years ago my neighbours blared music all the time...could be early in the morning or late in the night you never knew when it would start...It was not that they were partying, it was just everyday stuff...If they turned the music on,it had to be loud....I tried asking them nice to turn it down, on many occasions..I tried everything within the law,, but the law would not help me... my wife was pregnant at the time and it was a dodgy time for her as she had a miscarriage the year before....I tried to explain this to my neighbours but these people were the scum of the earth and didn't care about anyone.....

so one Sunday,I knew they were going to be out most of the day as they were all heading to a christening. ...I watched them leave to make sure they all went....

I forgot to say this was a council estate, and I had been a previous tenant in their house. I still had a key to that house...

Anyway I let myself in, I went upstairs....put the stopper in the bath and turned on the taps,I then clogged the over flow with jacks roll.

The damage it caused made the house unlivible,ceilings came down electrics were fucked etc..my house even got slightly damaged were some of the water seeped into my place.

The council gave them another place somewhere else and they never came back. ..... The fuckers

As far as I know, episodes of noise pollution should be reported to your local County Council ... Jot down dates and times in a diary as u will have to show that its excessive and frequent. Xx

So the music stopped at 8, I feel asleep and just woke now (yay) but now I can hear them shouting in the apt, they must be planning an all wkend party. They seem a bit young so hopefully they will crash and burn at some point! As someone on PM pointed out to me, go stay some where else tonight so I may fly up to my parents

Also living alone as a fem it is quite intimidating calling into an apartment full off d*unks, so much can go wrong, it's times like this I would love to have a man here
