I hate conflict but I also want to live in peace and enjoy my home....
So how to bring up a problem with a neighbour you've never seen or met?
My neighbours smoke a lot on their balcony which is right next to mine and my bedroom window.... If I leave the window open a lot of smoke comes inside.
It's really starting to bug me but I don't want to keep the window closed in this weather
What issues have you addressed with your neighbours and how did it turn out? Any tips? Or volunteers do have "the talk" for me? Ha! |

"I could ask them to blow it in the other direction, not? lol"
Sounds like thats just the way the wind is taking it, so it prob cant be helped no matter what way yheu blow it. You could always get aggressive with them and tell to go fuck off with their cigarettes and see how it goes...it might work depending on the type of character they are |

If you have a balcony put done large plants to block the smoke. ..or attach a trellis to the wall and it will block the smoke. ...prob easier for neighbourly relations...is not something they can help any more than you can |

My neighbour at home shot my first dog on my street when he (the neighbour) was 15. He shot it for fun.
He's a man now of 35.
He took my parents dog killed it and threw it in a bog, the dog was 14 and not a sheep worrier etc.
When my Mam was ill he wished her death.
He's pleasant.
Bizarrely I've opted to live directly across from him in a few months.
Ireland has a severe problem with guards being unable to do sweet fuck all about these sorta neighbours.

Oh
I forgot! We had this issue in work sweet with the people living in the apartment.
They used to flick their cigarette butts in too. We explained about the smoke and they just hadn't realised and cut it waaay back. But office hours and home hours are two different things |

that's actually a good idea! it would also give me much more privacy. I'll check with the landlord if he'd be ok with some trellies!
You're full of good ideas! Ta! |

That's a tough one all right. I don't let anyone smoke next to my house. I've banished my daughter to the end of the garden to smoke when she's home because of the same thing.
On a side note: how scary is that advert showing the 'invisible' fumes from smoking. |

Only youll be able to gauge how responsive they would be to such an outburst though...it may or may not work.
You could always just try the polite but firm way of asking them if they could possibly move to another spot. Most irish people wouldnt have the gall to say no to you. They could be pure knackers as well of course, in which case youre prob fucked |

Fuck me! that guy belongs in prison! I hope you don't have to deal with him at all!
Yeah, guards can't do shit here even when it comes lesser things like noise pollution!

I don't mean your crazy I'm merely pointing out that to suggest to a neighbor that they should blow their smoke the other way or not even smoke would be a crazy move that's my opinion neighbors from hell are exactly from hell! Its quite possible you may have neughbours from heaven in comparison |

I didn't get a chance to read all the other posts, so I am probably just going over old ground here.
I would say it to them, but in a nice way. The fact that they smoke outside probably means they don't like smoke in there home, so there's a good chance they will understand where your coming from. |

Oh yes.
We had a neighbour upwind who used to bbq all the time, same problem. I put wind chimes up after he said he couldn't control the wind. After a few weeks he came and asked me if I could take them down as they were disturbing his sleep. I said I couldn't control the wind. He moved. |

Neighbours in my old house complained to my landlord about me smoking out my back garden and it blowing into their garden.
Can't control the wind and wasn't going to move the seating area to please them.
I was outside and on my own property so they hadn't a leg to stand on.
