all citizens from the eu are allowed work here. ..the problem lies with non eu citizens. ..who have to go through a process of getting a work permit. ..etc...our government has a policy of not allowing people to work until they have the correct paperwork. ..They are put on a welfare of sorts. ...but no one is allowed to come to this country and claim social welfare. ...

To be fair some of the people replying are British and the OP is Irish, UKs policies are much stricter than the republics.

UK has requested we clamp down, so has France and Germany.

I mean we let in criminals, and people who would be turned away in UK airports, or not even make it onto planes to the UK/France etc.

I hate the way people are accused of being racist and xenophobic if they voice an opinion. Its not racist to say that people should leave if they dont like it here thats just logic and if you dont want to leave or cant then stop complaining. I lived in Dublin and didnt like it so I left it was that simple.

im 100% irish btw....whi England may be slightly different to us....They too have asylum seekers and huge camps for dealing with their asylum seekers. ....the problem with criminals arriving here is with the authorities in the country they come from. ..there's no liason between eu police officers. ..so its a free for all...

Well I completely understand were you're coming from but you have to see it from a different perspective. Living conditions that they probably lived in previously was probably much worse than here and lead them to migrate to other countries. Now you have to understand were not the only country foreign nationals go to but then again Irish people migrate to other countries and at some point have something bad to say about the place they went to. It's better when you think off it that way. Much love x

I'm sure we can all think of instances where we've heard something similar and wondered if it really was that much better and if any research was done before coming here that would have suggested those entering the country would have a different experience.

I have to tell you now...There is no more " handy money" to be had from social welfare. ..people who come here with no work permit. .. get 20e per week. ....and are kept in centre's. ...where they have to be in and out at certain times. ....hardly living off the fat of the land.....I don't see many of them laughing. ..

Im a farmer and i often look for peep to do work on farm i have offerd at least 5 non irish men work over last few months and they told me they dont need to work they gt enough in social welfare.

So technically, EU nationals from the Common Travel Area or those with only an employment permit and no employment contributions or asylum seekers who have been granted permission to remain are entitled to the same as any Irish person who has never worked.

When I say supported I mean provided you with the forum to make a living, part of the discussion here centres around how many other countries do not provide the supports this one does. I understand some of the intricacies of the topic and how many tangents it can go off on, I understand that our hisorically benefitting from EU membership has perhaps brought us to where we are today, I understand that we are all human with the same needs and sometimes the same rights.

But the initial post never mentioned a particular race but discussed other nationalities choosing to live here and then negatively compare it to the situation they left. I too have encountered it and take offence to it as I have said. I do however find it tiresome that when one person tries to discuss or vent a frustration that they are immediately targeted for using 'the trigger words'. The OP never lumped a whole race into any statement that I can recall, apologies if I have missed that one, but I do feel the responses immediately tried to insinuate it and drag the topic in that direction....... answer to his statement - yes it does piss me off or no it doesn't actually bother me!

Well im sure if you ask most peep they tell a story about peep coming to ireland and nt here a wet week until they complaining about the country and how much better every thing is where they come from.we all have to put up with what we got

Think of the gene pool!

There are many reasons to be peeved with living conditions in Ireland (taxes, cost of living, climate, irish begrudgery...) and a sizeable number of our young and well educated choose to emigrate for a better life.

There are also some very talented individuals worldwide who would love to work here but can't due to visa stipulations. It's sad that they don't have the choices we have.

It's a little hypocritical to complain about complainers

I am a foreigner, here 15 years, only time i got the dole money was when a factory i was working in closed down, took me 6 months to find a job, now i hate paying taxes for those who sit on their ass without looking for a job, regardless where they are from, things are tough yes but i hear many people saying why should i work? I get more from the government, i find that disgraceful

..yip...I surrender two.....going back to Uganda. ..where I belong. ..And whats wrong with uganda...not a thing. ...I have nothing against anyone from another country. ..Me neither as long as they prepared to work for a living all citizens from the eu are allowed work here. ..the problem lies with non eu citizens. ..who have to go through a process of getting a work permit. ..etc...our government has a policy of not allowing people to work until they have the correct paperwork. ..They are put on a welfare of sorts. ...but no one is allowed to come to this country and claim social welfare. ..."

very true you only get unemployment for 15 months in America then after that nothing no money no health care I moved there at the age of 1 1/2 by went to school worked and moved back to ireland 19 yr ago it is not that easy to get social walefare here any more you have to be able to support yourself for two yrs now not like the old days

oh yes u can..I know a family that gets.four hundred euro approx per week plus rent allowence, medical card etc all since 2002.. that's roughly 340000 to 400000 euro since they arrived
