What is it with the taste of Guinness in different bars?
I was in town last night for the Jimmy Carr gig and we were drinking in about 4 bars but the pint was different in every bar we went to....anyone else get the same?
Gig was brilliant by the way |

"I'm a barman an I can't figure it out. Just some bars are good guinness houses an some aren't!!"
A mate was in Heineken and he said it was consistant all night but 2 of us on Guinness couldn't get a decent one. My local has the Guinness to a T....its like milk yum yum.
Back to town tonight for more punishment |

Largers like Heiniken or whatever use different gas than Guinness. They are also affected less by pipe and pour.
Heiniken is made fizzy with co2, Guinness is compressed with Nitrogn.
This means the tap also needs to be cleaned for Guinness, as bubbles are made not from the gas in it, but by holes in the tap and the pressure from the nitrogen.
Thats why it bubbles up and settles. You wait for the bubbles from the tap to leave the liquid.
When you combine all the elements it means there are a few things that can make guinness taste different from bar to bar and a larger should taste the same.
A lot of pubs in town dont keep the guinness up to scratch because they just cant be bothered, they would rather you have a beer and not have everyone stand at the bar waiting for a guinness.
So when it comes to cleaning out the system, they probably do it when they do the rest of the systems, no more no less. |

Can't beat a good one, on the bus now to frequent a couple of establishments so I'll report back later. |
