In light of recent events I thought it would be a good idea for people to share their tips on how to protect your identity on the site for the less computer savvy 
I thought I had it pretty well covered, but now not so sure...

Don't share anything online that you wouldn't share in the real world. You can't be too careful. Don't use any pics that are used elsewhere, a reverse image search can throw up some surprising results. Use a separate phone. |

These seem obvious but amazing how many ladies make these mistakes
Never give surname and when using kik or whatsapp don't have ur full name in the profile settings as have had a few message and U get full name! |

Never allow intimate videos to be recorded....
I have never done video clips but one time a very persistent bloke told me he had seen videos of me with his mate. I knew he couldn't have but he tried to blackmail me for weeks. Knowing I hadn't participated in videos kept me sane! |

Never hand out ur phone number if ur on facebook hide ur profile pic by choosen something like a landscape one also hide ur friendlist.If ur not sure about a meet but you want to go anyway tell another fab buddy that u trust on where u going and who with just incase u need a get out quick clause.

2 Use a fake name instead of your of your real name
3 Use an email just for here
4 Set all pics too friends only or private
5 have your meets in hotels or anywhere other than your private home
6 Never discuss your private life with anyone from fab
7 Always alway log out of fab and clear you internet history and settings
8 When at parties avoid heavy drinking as you could give them your personal info
9 Watermark every photo u upload so it cant be re used
10 Keep it simple keep it short keep it private

tips for keeping your fab life separate from your facebook life:
1. If you're not using a fab phone, and you must give out your personal number, then dont associate that number with facebook.
2. learn the facebook privacy settings. lock down your facebook. get notifications if you're tagged in anything. dont allow your friends list to be seen to non friends. dont have your face pic as a profile pic, or as a cover photo. and for GOD'S SAKE dont have a pic of your kids as one either.
3. learn how to reverse image search using google or tineye. if you get a gut feeling about a profile, reverse search the pics.
4. dont use a face pic (or again one of your kids) as a profile pic on viber, whatsapp or kik, and certainly dont use your full name on them, or as part of your profile name.
5. password protect your phone, either with a pin, pattern or fingerprint and set the alternate method of access should you forget the primary method. this goes for online accounts too.
5. back up your phone to online storage, such as drop box and such and get an app called cerberus (android only, it was 2,99 last time i checked and best 2.99 you'll ever spend) or find my iphone for iphones and you'll be able to remotely track or wipe your phone should it fall into the wrong hands. if you're regularly back up to the cloud you wont have lost anything (including your naughty pics)
and above all:
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SHARE WITH PEOPLE. |

Just to add if you're still using regular texts instead of whatsapp and the like, there's and app for android called "sms backup +" it's free and you can set it to back up all your texts once a day to a folder it creates in your gmail account called "sms"
great if you get abusive texts and/or you lose or break your phone, you wont have lost any evidence. |

Recently I sent my laptop in to be repaired. Needed a new hard drive. When I collected it he said I was able to retrieve all your pics, I had a look when I got home and there I was in all my naked glory |

if you're using the google chrome browser, right click on an image and choose "search google for this image" if it's on the internet on any other sites, google will tell you.

One woman sent her photo to me - I googled it - it brought up her CV - name , work etc. She had used the same photo as on her CV.
I told her to do it - she was totally shocked at what came up. She didn't send that pic out again.

There is a point where so much protection and paranoia takes the fun away from things! we are all adults here and it's our life our bodies! We do what we like with them. Also Unfortunately once you have met someone your identity if wide open regardless of how much you wanna hide it! because I seen your face so next time I pop into the shop or you go about your daily routine you might meet someone in the supermarket, your work, etc. live and let live |

I don't think being protective has to be about paranoia or take from the fun. But being aware of what your telling others.
No one needs to know your life history.
And this just doesn't mean on here. On All social media.
